This morning, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, ALE Director Bryan House joined local and state partners for the Robeson County Executive Law Enforcement Officers Association’s 34th Annual Memorial Service.

Speaking on dedication, service, and sacrifice, Director House reflected on the shared bond of those who wear the badge and the profound weight of those whose watch has ended, including North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Stein Davis Jr., whose tragic loss on February 22 in Robeson County continues to be felt across North Carolina.

Drawing from the story of Nehemiah, Director House delivered a powerful reminder to the families of the fallen and the officers who still answer the call every day:

“When the work becomes difficult, when criticism grows loud, when evil seems relentless, and when exhaustion sets in... may those who wear the badge remember these words: ‘I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.’”

We continue to stand with the families of our fallen heroes, and we remain deeply grateful to the residents and leadership of Robeson County for their enduring support of the men and women in uniform.

32 years ago today, Special Agent Troy Carr’s life was cut short in the line of duty, but his legacy of courage remains unshakeable.

Even when faced with a fatal threat during a foot pursuit, Agent Carr demonstrated incredible bravery and resolve. While his service with the ALE was brief, his impact on the agency and the state of North Carolina is permanent.

Today, we honor his commitment and extend our gratitude to his family and fellow agents. His watch ended, but his inspiration continues.

🚨Convicted Felon Arrested in Mount Gilead 📰

Working in partnership with the Mount Gilead Police Department, ALE special agents successfully concluded a targeted surveillance operation on Friday, May 8, leading to the arrest of a repeat offender and the seizure of controlled substances and a firearm.

Following multiple community complaints regarding illegal drug sales near local businesses, agents and MGPD conducted surveillance in the area of Julius Chambers Blvd and South Wadesboro Blvd.

The suspect, identified as Jaleel Leake, 24, of Mount Gilead, was observed loitering around the parking lot of ABC licensed establishments. Agents noted Leake was carrying a red backpack, matching the description provided by concerned community members who reported daily drug activity in the area.

Upon approaching the suspect, agents detected a strong odor of ma*****na. A subsequent search of Leake and his backpack revealed:
-A G***k 19 handgun equipped with an extended magazine.
-Various controlled substances packaged for sale.
-Numerous drug paraphernalia items used for the packaging and distribution of controlled substances.

Leake, who was previously convicted of a felony in 2022 involving both drugs and fi****ms, now faces the following charges:
-Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
-Felony Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver (PWISD) Ma*****na
-Simple Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance
-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Leake was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and placed under a $200,000 secured bond.

ALE remains committed to addressing illegal activity at ABC-permitted businesses to ensure the safety of our communities. Thank you to the Mount Gilead Police Department for their vital assistance in this case.
