Garner Fire-Rescue hosted a live burn scenario yesterday on Pagan Road, that allowed us to train with several mutual aid partners and get some good company training accomplished as well. Thanks to Swift Creek Fire, Fairview Fire, Fuquay-Varina Fire, Knightdale Fire, Cleveland Fire and Clayton Fire Depts, as well as Wake EMS and Wake Tech Community College for the participation and assistance. More pics and videos to come….

***LIVE BURN ALERT***

Garner Fire Rescue will be conducting a live fire training ALL DAY today on Standing Oak Lane, off Pagan Road. The training will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

After 5:00 p.m., there may still be some smoke in the area from smoldering debris. Fire department apparatus will remain on site after 5:00 p.m., and crews will continue to stop by and check the property throughout the evening.

There will also be an increased presence of fire trucks in the area throughout the day, including tankers traveling the surrounding roads hauling water to the training site.

Earlier this week, Garner Fire-Rescue reached an important milestone as we completed our Commission on Fire Accreditation (CFAI) accreditation hearing awarding us Accredited Agency status for the second time. Accreditation is much more than preparing documents, meeting benchmarks, or participating in a hearing. At its heart, it is about an organization being willing to look honestly in the mirror and ask:

What are we doing?
How are we doing it?
Why are we doing it?
And most importantly, how can we do it better?

Garner Fire-Rescue has embraced a simple philosophy throughout this journey: we want to be better today than we were yesterday. We are what we envision ourselves to be. If we can't see it, we can't be it. Honest self-assessment and introspection are vitally important to carving new paths forward. It takes courage for an organization to challenge itself, acknowledge opportunities for improvement, and continually look for ways to become better.

It is never about perfection. It is about refusing to become comfortable with mediocrity and continually challenging ourselves to be the best version of Garner Fire-Rescue that we can be. With any continuous improvement effort, there can sometimes be a feeling that there is never a finish line. In reality, there are momentary victories. There are opportunities to celebrate accomplishments, recognize the hard work of others, and appreciate how far an organization has come.

Yesterday was one of those moments.

After five years of work, countless hours of preparation, assessment, review, discussion, and improvement, Garner Fire-Rescue had the opportunity to pause and recognize an important accomplishment in our accreditation journey. A special thank you goes to our Town Manager, Jodi Miller, for accompanying us during the hearing and representing the Town of Garner alongside our organization. We are thankful for her support and commitment to Garner Fire-Rescue and to the continuous improvement of the services we provide to our community.

But continuous improvement does not end with a hearing...The finish line moves.

The expectation remains the same: to pursue high performance, remain accountable, learn from our experiences, and continually find ways to better serve the community entrusted to us. Today, Garner Fire-Rescue pauses to celebrate how far we have come and, more importantly, to recognize the people whose commitment made this moment possible. This is a moment to celebrate with our agency, our stakeholders, and the many community partners who have supported us throughout this journey.

Tomorrow, we keep moving the finish line.

Thank you for your continued support.

Engine One’s B-Shift crew joined forces with our public safety partners for the annual Touch-A-Truck event at the Southeastern Regional Library in Garner!

Garner Fire-Rescue, Wake EMS, and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office braved the heat and humidity this morning to bring smiles to more than 100 children—and give them an up-close look at the people and equipment that help keep our community safe.

It was a great morning of fun, connection, and community spirit!
