This week, the librarians at Desmond-Fish are focused on preparing for life's uncertainties. On Tuesday, we are presenting the Emergency Preparedness & Community Resilience Workshop with NYS Citizen Preparedness Corps and the Garrison Institute. This is followed on Wednesday with Health Insurance Navigation, where you can get assistance in navigating and accessing health insurance in the NYS marketplace.

Also this week, we've got a Mahjong Meetup, a meeting of the Page to Screen Book Club and the Origami Club. We'll tell you more about these special events at https://desmondfishlibrary.org/events/

We look forward to seeing you!

Please note: The library will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday over Memorial Day Weekend, May 23 to May 25.

Don’t be scared! The library is still open. We’re redoing our sidewalk and front entryway to make it safer and more accessible. After the walkway is finished, we will be repairing our potholes and repaving our parking lot and driveway. The library will be closed May 28 and 29 while we mill and pave, but we promise your journey to the library will be a lot smoother!

This past Saturday, drummer Sean Kmiotek set the pace for the 1775 New York militia, the Hearts of Oak, which included in its ranks Nicholas Fish, the great grandfather of library founder, Hamilton Fish.

Following a performance of period music by Erik and Eliza Lichack, the Hearts of Oak reenactors led a march from the library to nearby Mandeville House, where patrons were greeted by Mandeville trustee Dr. Sarahjane Brittis, who with her team offered tours of the newly-restored house.

Be sure to experience the Library’s current exhibit “Choosing Liberty” featuring Colonel Nicholas Fish. We look forward to seeing you!

Spring is most definitely in the air and so are wall-to-wall events at Desmond-Fish this week. We're starting on Wednesday with a Mahjong Meetup and our all important American Red Cross Blood Drive. AI is on the menu: Thursday's event is devoted to protecting your privacy and Sunday's event to the challenges of identifying AI images and text. There's also an opportunity to participate in creating a map of local cultural sites, a meeting of the Library Student Council, a car seat safety check, and a writing workshop.
