Good afternoon Shelton’s Run Community:
During this past week, we were contacted by an official from Dominion Electric. The reason for the outreach was to let our board know about a series of upcoming community engagement events Dominion has planned to get feedback on an upcoming project. The project, called the Kraken Loop electric transmission project, is going to loop through multiple communities over the coming few years as Dominion responds to an expected electricity deficit in Virginia that is being driven by population, data centers, etc. Due to a limit on how much power the buried lines can carry, Dominion plans on utilizing their easements across the impacted communities to construct towers.
For Shelton's Run, the project would run through our Tot Lot -- the area where we have our playground, pavilion, walking track, and general open area for community events -- and would involve at least one tower being constructed along Dominion's easement (which cuts across the common area). Given the size of the tower, we would most likely be forced to move our playground, and it would certainly impact the area overall. Our community was very engaged the last time this issue came up, as were the other impacted communities across Stafford County (which is how we ended up with buried power cables), and I informed the official they should expect the same response this time around.
We shared all of this information with our association’s attorney, and once I have his reply, we will coordinate the engagement with them (they have offered the week of 20 October which is in advance of their broader Stafford County engagements (see the schedule below)).
We look forward to receiving additional information, and be assured as soon as we have additional details, we will share them with you. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
