Yesterday at around 10:50pm, the Garwood Fire Department was alerted to respond to a residence on the 300 block of Hemlock Ave for a structure fire. C1 was the first unit to arrive on scene and reported a 2.5 story wood frame with heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear. He transmitted the 2nd alarm. Engine 5 arrived on scene and simultaneously stretched two hand lines one to the interior of the first floor as well as the second floor. Truck 1 followed shortly after. Crews battled the fire along with mutual aid companies for approximately 2 hours before the fire was placed under control. This incident rose to 3 alarms before being placed under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Union County Fire Investigation Task Force. Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners for your help.
