The City of Gary is aware that residents are experiencing power outages and debris as a result of the damaging storms on the evening of June 11, 2026. Our top priority is the safety of our residents. We are incredibly proud of our general services team and first responders who worked tirelessly through the night to secure hazardous areas and begin the cleanup process. We will continue to coordinate our efforts and remain on the ground until our neighborhoods are fully restored.

UPDATE 2:

As of 10 p.m., the following areas have experienced an increase in reported power outages since the previous update:
• 46403: 2,662 outages
• 46404: 1,075 outages
• 46401: 62 outages
• 46409: 31 outages
• 46406: 29 outages
• 46405: 7 outages

The Miller/Aetna area and Ambridge Mann, Tolleston, Midtown area continue to report the highest concentration of outages. Other ZIP codes remain stable at this time.

Here is what you need to know right now:

🌪️ Tornado Watch: In effect until 9:00 PM CDT. Conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes. Make sure your family knows where your designated safe space is located.

🌧️ Flood Watch: In effect until 11:00 PM CDT.
Heavy, localized rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Action Steps to Take Right Now:

1. Ensure your phone is fully charged and emergency alerts are turned ON.
2. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, such as a weather radio or local news app.
3. Check in on elderly neighbors and bring outdoor pets inside.

To protect public health and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses, the City of Gary’s Department of Health and Human Services will conduct truck spraying throughout the summer.

‍What Residents Should Know :

▫️Purpose: To control mosquito populations and prevent the spread of viruses.

▫️Safety: The spray used is safe for people, pets, and the environment. You do not need to stay indoors during spraying.

▫️Schedule: Spraying is divided by city sections and is dependent on weather and truck availability.
