🚨 A HEARTFELT THANK YOU FROM GARYSBURG VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT 🚨
Yesterday at approximately 12:05 PM, Garysburg Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a fire along the railroad tracks near Highway 301 in Garysburg.
What followed was a long, hot, and exhausting day. With the extreme heat, very dry conditions, difficult terrain, and Mother Nature providing plenty of wind, our firefighters worked vigorously for hours to contain the fire and protect the surrounding area.
Our crews worked from approximately 12:05 PM until 6:00 PM, only to be called back out at approximately 7:15 PM when the fire rekindled. Our members continued working into the night and were finally able to clear the scene around 10:15 PM.
First and foremost, we want to thank our Garysburg volunteers. We could not be more appreciative of the men and women who gave their time, energy, and everything they had yesterday. These volunteers endured the heat and difficult conditions for hours, went home for barely enough time to catch their breath, and then came right back when their community needed them again. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.
We would also like to extend a sincere thank-you to the North Carolina Forest Service for providing additional manpower and a dozer to assist with containing the fire. Your help was invaluable.
Thank you to Northampton County EMS, EMS 11 and Medic 5, for sticking it out with us in the heat, looking after our firefighters, and making sure everyone had plenty of water throughout the day. Having you there meant more than you know.
A special thank-you to Northampton County EM-1 / Fire Marshal Chris Collier, who is always willing to lend a helping hand and support our department whenever we need it. We truly appreciate everything you do for us.
And finally, a HUGE thank-you to Northampton County 911 Telecommunications. We know yesterday meant hours of radio traffic, changing conditions, requests, updates, and then another round when we returned that evening. Thank you for your patience, professionalism, and for being the voices behind the radio keeping everyone connected and accounted for.
Days like yesterday are a reminder that no department handles an incident alone. It takes firefighters, forestry personnel, EMS, emergency management, dispatchers, and many others working together toward the same goal.
To every single person who had a hand in helping us yesterday: THANK YOU. We appreciate you more than words can say.
And to our Garysburg volunteers — after the long hours, relentless heat, smoke, wind, and having to go back for round two after dark — we couldn't be prouder of our people. ❤️🚒
