Jerry Stair is our longest active volunteer at Grant County EMS. He joined what is now known as Ambulance 7 in the spring of 1979. After Grant county EMS began in January of 1978. He has been continuously serving the citizens of Fairmount and Grant County for 47 years! Obtaining his EMT certification in 1983. Jerry also served on Ambulance 8 in Upland while working full time at Taylor University. Taylor allowed him to respond to EMS calls as part of their commitment to community outreach. Jerry has served many offices in the Ambulance 7 system, as training officer and maintenance coordinator. In 2009, he was appointed Unit Chief of Ambulance 7.

He was awarded a plaque at tonight’s Chiefs meeting for 45+ years of service dedicated to this county.

“Serving on Ambulance 7 is my commitment to Fairmount and the surrounding community”- Jerry

Thank you Chief Stair for years of dedicated service to Grant County! 🚑

EMS Week 2026: Monday - Education Day!
Did you know: To maintain certification, Indiana EMTs must complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education, while EMRs (first responders) require 20 hours, covering essential topics such as CPR certification and driver's training, and audit and review. This educational commitment highlights the dedication of our volunteer responders, who not only answer emergency calls at all hours of the day and night but also work hard to fulfill rigorous certification requirements. Their service and sacrifice are deeply appreciated.
Be sure to thank a first responder today!

Happy EMS week! GCEMS is happy to partner and work alongside many of these departments as well as several others to provide care to our community and those surrounding us.

This week is National EMS week, we choose to celebrate as one. Emergency Medical Services as a whole is more than treating patients and transporting them to definitive care. It's brother and sisterhood amongst the profession aimed at making us all better. Celebrating the wins over the losses, continuously learning, and helping each other when a time of need arises. Here's to us, for taking care of our respective communities and each other.

Happy EMS Week.
