Happy Juneteenth! 🎉

Today, we honor June 19, 1865—the day the news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, marking the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation.

As we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and culture, we also pause to honor the incredible courage of the soldiers who fought side-by-side to make this liberation a reality. This day belongs to the legacy of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and the white Union soldiers who stood, fought, and sacrificed together on the battlefields of the Civil War to dismantle slavery and preserve the Union.

When Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to deliver General Order No. 3, he was backed by a diverse force of Union soldiers—both Black and white—who marched together to ensure that freedom was finally enforced.

Their shared commitment to the cause of liberty laid the foundation for the freedoms we celebrate today. As we commemorate this historic day, let us remember their collective sacrifice and recommit to the ongoing journey toward unity, equality, and justice for all.

Celebrate the freedom, honor the ancestors, and salute the brave soldiers who fought together to secure it. ✨✊🏾🇺🇸

💜 This April, during Month of the Military Child, we're shining a spotlight on the incredible Walker family! SFC Jonathan Walker, Station Commander at Smithfield Recruiting Station, balances his dedication to our country with being a fantastic father to Justin (14) & Jackson (6). Justin is a high-achiever at Northwood Temple Academy - crushing it with a 4.0 GPA while also excelling in baseball, Boy Scouts, and Beta Club! Little brother Jackson is a busy Cub Scout and basketball player, and is beaming with pride after being awarded “Site Word Superhero” at his school awards! 🎉 We’re so grateful for the sacrifices our military families make, and the resilience & achievements of military kids like Justin & Jackson are truly inspiring. Thank you, Walker family, for your service and dedication!
