I had the opportunity to tour The Pearl, Charlotte's new medical education and research district that brings together medical training, research, and advanced surgical technology. The campus includes Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Atrium Health, Carolinas College of Health Sciences, and IRCAD North America, a surgical training and research center.

At the heart of The Pearl is Wake Forest University School of Medicine's new Charlotte campus. For years, Charlotte was the largest city in the country without a four-year medical school, but now students can complete all four years of their medical education right here in Charlotte.

It was great to see how this new campus is expanding opportunities for medical education and helping train the next generation of doctors.

Great to join folks in Kings Mountain for the Cleveland County Farm Bureau’s annual picnic.

Today marks one year since Iryna Zarutska was tragically murdered by a violent repeat offender who was released onto our streets time and time again.

Iryna came to America seeking safety and a better life. She should still be here today.

We must hold reckless judges accountable and put an end to soft-on-crime policies. We owe it to Iryna and every victim of violent crime to keep our communities safe.

Yesterday, I visited a home being rebuilt through Renew NC for a family impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Their new home is nearly complete, bringing this family one step closer to being back home and moving forward after the storm. Renew NC is supported by federal disaster recovery dollars that are helping rebuild homes in communities hit by Helene.

Every home rebuilt is another step forward for Western North Carolina. I’ll keep working to make sure that progress continues.

Great to visit BASF in Charlotte and meet with employees and leadership to learn more about their operations and the role they play in North Carolina’s economy.

The Charlotte site employs more than 300 people and supports industries across the world, providing polymers used in everything from automotive and paint to packaging.

We also discussed the importance of trade policies and a regulatory environment that protects public safety while allowing American manufacturers to compete and grow.
