** UPDATE **

Crew member Michael Young came through his surgery on 5/27/2026 okay. They kept him sedated and intubated until around midday on 5/28/2026. He is breathing good now on his own, has a good appetite, communicating well, but is still in a whole lot of pain.

Michael lost a lot of blood during and right after surgery and had to be given transfusions, but that is under control now. He is still undergoing his dialysis treatments but right now it's set up by his bedside for round the clock. The doctors are trying different combinations of pain medications to get his pain under control.

He is currently still in the Intensive Care Unit at Holston Valley.

Twannia and the family express deep gratitude towards the prayers and support given to them during this time.

**UPDATE**

We would like for everyone to continue to keep crew members Michael and Twannia Young in your thoughts and prayers.

Michael has decided to fight and give it all he has. Even though the doctors have told him that surgery is extremely risky and went over the possible effects from it, he has decided to have surgery anyways (amputation of his leg below the knee).

His wife just posted on her page that he is now in surgery 5/27/2026 at 6:00pm and will probably take a couple of hours.

Since Michael is having the surgery he will not be in Hospice care now.

We would like for everyone to keep a couple of our crew members in your thoughts and prayers, Michael and Twannia Young.

Michael has been sick in body for several years, weekly dialysis treatments, in and out of the hospital multiple times, physical therapy, and now palliative care.

He is currently in the hospital at Holston Valley in ICU and the doctors have more or less said they have done all they can do. To correct/help what he is being treated for requires surgery but due to his current health conditions that's not an option. He will be released to go home in a few days and placed in Hospice care.

Going into the first turn, you can see our old Rescue 34 in the infield.

Still get choked up watching the hauler take the checkered flag 🏁.

In the 1990's and early 2000's SCLSC would send a couple of crews every year to Bristol Motor Speedway 🏁🏎 in the spring and fall to help work the infield and the stands.

One year while we were in the infield, Sterling Marlin came over to our ambulance and talked to our crew. Before he left he signed the left front fender of our ambulance.

Years later when we sold that ambulance the signature was still visible.

This may be a long shot, but does any of our former crew members that used to work the races have a picture of this signature and know which ambulance it was on?

All we have is the story right now, would like to get a picture to go in our history collection if possible.

THANK YOU to all our county EMS providers.

A lot of times EMS agencies/providers are overlooked because to the majority of the general population their services are not needed. Only when a medical emergency or an accident of some type comes up then you think of them. You expect their services right then and there.

Let's try and change our mindset to appreciate these public service providers not only when needed but all the time. If you see them out in public, thank them for their service. A simple "thank you" or "I really appreciate you all being here for us" means a lot and can go a long way in the mindset of our providers.

The family of Issac Griffin has set up a cash app account to help pay for funeral expenses. Issac's mom said that he didn't have any life insurance and the funeral home had to have the money up front before any services could be made.

If you feel lead to help this family out we know that it will be greatly appreciated.

We would like for everyone to keep our crew member and employee Danny Miles and his wife Donna in your thoughts and prayers. Received word that their oldest son was involved in a water accident and passed away.

Over the years we watched Issac grow up and when he turned 16 he joined SCLSC as a junior member. He was really enthusiastic to share running calls with his dad, to learn, and to help others.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Danny, Donna, and their other kids.
