Severe thunderstorms are possible across Central and Eastern Virginia and the Maryland Eastern Shore this afternoon through late tonight.

Primary hazards include:
Damaging wind gusts of 60+ mph
Isolated large hail
A brief tornado or two (mainly for northeastern portions of the area)
Localized flooding
Stay weather aware this afternoon and evening!

Good morning! Mainly dry weather will continue this morning/midday. Then, scattered to numerous storms are expected to develop just to our north and track southeast through the area from late this afternoon through the evening. Some of the storms could be severe, with wind gusts of 60+ mph the main threat. However, large hail and a couple tornadoes are also possible.

In addition to the ongoing severe threat, a Flood Watch has been issued for much of the area. Numerous rounds of heavy rain are likely today into tonight, lingering into Thursday across southern portions of the area. Scattered to numerous instances of flash flooding are likely.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – ONE LANE TRAFFIC 🚨

From Gates County Emergency Management Director:

Motorists are advised that traffic is currently reduced to one lane due to a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Water Plant Road/Reynoldson Road and NC Highway 13.
Please use caution when traveling through the area, expect delays, and be alert for emergency personnel and first responders working at the scene.
If possible, consider using an alternate route until the roadway is fully cleared.
