Today is Memorial Day….the day we take time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy our freedom today.

Heard a quote earlier that sums up Memorial Day “For families that have lost a loved one defending our nation, every day is Memorial Day.”

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms, especially those that put on bunker gear to help their communities.

Saw a quote that sums up every mother out there “if you are a mom, you are a super hero.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is April 12-18, 2026.

We want to thank the dispatchers at Gatesville Police Department and Coryell County Sheriffs Office for your dedicated work in keeping our cities and county safe year around.

Dispatchers are the first voice heard when calling for the husband having chest pain, the child having a seizure, the fire being reported or crime in progress.

Your hard work keeps every firefighter, EMT, paramedic and law enforcement officer safe each and every day.

There are many job titles for those working in public safety communications; dispatcher, communications specialists, system status controller, etc. Regardless of the job title, each and every one are truly a "First, First responder"

If you see or speak to one of these dedicated professionals, tell them THANK YOU for a job well done.

The more you know:
In Texas, 911 dispatchers and public safety telecommunicators are now recognized as first responders due to the passage of House Bill 1090 in 2019. This change, effective September 1, 2019, acknowledges their critical role in providing immediate support during emergencies. Dispatchers now receive the same protections and benefits as other first responders, including access to mental health resources.

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

Most people will never understand it.

They’ll see the truck go by. They’ll hear the sirens. They’ll assume someone is there to take care of it.

And most of the time… they’re right. But what they don’t see is everything behind that moment.

The interrupted dinners. The missed time with family. The early mornings after late nights. The second thoughts… and the decision to go anyway.

They don’t see the quiet conversations after a tough call.

Or the ones who sit in their trucks for a minute before going back inside. Or the people who wonder if they’re doing enough… and still keep showing up.

This has never been about being perfect. It’s never been about having more time than anyone else. It’s about choosing to be part of something bigger… even when it’s inconvenient. Even when it’s hard. Even when nobody is watching.

That’s the heart of a volunteer.

And they still choose to show up! 🚒

Thank you Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) for the generous donation.

TNMP is excited to announce that the Gatesville Fire Dept is a proud recipient of our Emergency Resiliency Grant of $10,000! The City of Gatesville recently experienced a devastating fire in their historic downtown.
Gatesville VFD, among numerous others, spent long hours fighting the blaze and ensuring the safety of the community and local businesses. We have seen firsthand how the community rallies and comes together in these times of crisis.
TNMP is proud to stand with this great community and support our first responders for all they do!

The burn ban for Coryell County expired on March 27.

The commissioners court does not meet again until April 14.

Unless the county judge signs an order between now and then, there will not be a burn ban in effect.

Most of the county is fairly dry. We have been very lucky to have only had a handful of wildland fires over the past 30+ days.

Thank you to everyone in Coryell County for your due diligence in following the burn ban while it was in effect.

If you intend to burn, please contact the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office at 254-865-7201 prior to burning. The dispatcher on duty will advise if the wind speeds would constitute a no burn day. If not, the dispatcher will take some basic information for their control burn log.
