📣 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽
Here’s a quick look 👀 at the important topics discussed during the Gates County Board of Commissioners Special Meeting work session—from safe drinking water and utility improvements to community services and long-term planning.

💧 Drinking water: Consultants reviewed fluoride-removal options and recommended reverse osmosis as the most practical treatment approach. Discussion covered operating costs, blending treated and untreated water, future capacity, equipment needs, and concentrate disposal.
🚰 Water supply wells: The Board received an update on replacement Well 2A, including continuing efforts to improve its yield and efficiency. Future planning may include test and production wells in different aquifers to evaluate water quality, capacity, and appropriate well spacing.
🏗️ Wastewater and waterline projects: Staff reviewed bids for the Honeypot Road wastewater treatment facility rehabilitation, financing options, and sludge-disposal considerations. Updates were also provided on active waterline connections, creek crossings, the Gatesville transmission main, and the planned elevated water tank.
📋 Capital planning: The Board discussed updating its Capital Improvement Plan to address treatment capacity, utility assets, valves, and long-term water and sewer needs.

📣 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽

🎃 Halloween traffic: Gatesville roads will be closed to through traffic from 6:00–7:30 p.m. -- Road closures will be in place at the following intersections:
-Court Street and High Street
-Court Street and Main Street
-Main Street and East Maple Street
📚 Library recognition: The Board heard remarks from the Gates County Gates County Public Library Board supporting the new library name, Patricia Brown Familar Memorial Library.
🏢 Data centers: After a public hearing, the Board approved the zoning ordinance text amendment and consistency statement concerning data centers.
🚧 Buckland project: The Board voted 4–1 to continue the Buckland School wastewater improvements project.
🌳 Commerce Center: The Board authorized a recommendation from the Merchants Commerce Center Committee to advertise an RFP to clear and grade 11.5 acres at the Merchants Commerce Center.
💪 Free exercise-room access: Gates County residents as well as county and school employees age 18+ may use the fitness room at the Community Gates County Community Center & Recreation at no charge after signing a waiver. The nonresident fee remains $20.
🙋 Citizen Advisory Boards: Patricia Felton was appointed to the Library Board, and vacancies remain on several citizen advisory boards.
🏷️ Surplus property: The Board unanimously accepted the highest upset bid of $18,000 for a parcel on Drumhill Road, subject to the next required step in the process.
