GUFD - Gateway-Unaweep Fire Department GUFD is a combination paid and volunteer district serving Gateway and the Unaweep Canyon area of Western Colorado

We are the combination fire department serving Gateway and the Unaweep Canyon of Western Colorado. We serve approximately 900 square miles of open range, farming, BLM, forest, residential and ranching areas protecting the lives and property of more than 50 residents of the Gateway community and western portions of the Whitewater community. Our services include fire fighting, EMS, advanced life support, rescue and community awareness.

The Mesa County Sheriff, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Grand Junction Field Office, Colorado National Monument, and the Fire Chiefs representing municipalities and fire protection districts of Mesa County are implementing Stage 1 Fire

Due to fire danger concerns, Mesa County Public Health has extended a No Burn Advisory until Monday, June 15 at 9 p.m.

Burning of any kind, including agricultural burning, is not allowed during this advisory period.

Heads up for our West End folks - Smoke is visible in the West End of Montrose County. The smoke comes from a fast growing wildfire burning in the Carpenter Flats area north of Paradox. Federal and regional agencies are en route. Please do not call 911 to report the smoke.
