Deputy Dean getting some hands-on training with the fire crew today. 🚒

He wanted to experience what it’s like to have the coolest gear, drive the biggest trucks, and be everyone’s favorite responder. 😂

We’ll send him back to the squad car eventually.

At about 810pm June 16, 2026 we received a call for an issue at an oil well site on E Dixon lake rd operated by Core Energy causing a leak of Carbon dioxide this was coupled with a small amount of crude oil and created a large odor in the area and the city of Ga***rd

If you experience any symptoms such as headache, dizziness or difficulty breathing move to fresh air and call 911.

The situation has been corrected and we are checking all areas the gas odor traveled

There is no threat to the public at this time

🚫🔥 Fire danger remains high across our area! 🔥🚫

Before conducting any outdoor burning, please check the current burn permit status through the Michigan DNR Burn Permit website. Conditions can change quickly, and burn restrictions may be implemented to help prevent wildfires and protect our communities.

Warm, dry weather + dry vegetation = the perfect ingredients for a wildfire!!

The wildfire risk is currently HIGH to VERY HIGH across much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula. Downed limbs and debris from last year’s ice storm have dried out and are adding to the fire danger by providing extra fuel for potential wildfires. At this time, the DNR will not issue permits for burning yard debris in the northern Lower Peninsula and the U.P.

We encourage everyone to use extreme caution and check with your local fire department or municipality before conducting any outdoor burning.

Fire safety reminders:

🔥 Keep a hose or water source nearby when burning.

🔥Prevent sparks by ensuring trailer chains do not drag on roadways and avoiding parking hot equipment on dry grass.

🔥 Keep campfires contained in a fire ring or pit and fully extinguish them before leaving. Douse fires with water, stir ashes and douse again.

🔥 Never leave fires or hot coals unattended.

🔥Never shoot fireworks into wooded areas, dry grass or shrubs.

🔥Avoid burning plastics, hazardous materials or household trash. Use only approved burn barrels with screens for natural materials such as paper and leaves.

One spark can start a wildfire. Help keep Michigan safe!

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

From all of us at the Otsego County Fire Authority, we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen heroes and their families. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Fb 🔥🧨Fire Danger is in the VERY HIGH category today across the Huron-Manistee National Forests.

Wildfires sparked from equipment use, campfires or debris burning start easily from most causes.

♨️During VERY HIGH fire danger, fires will spread rapidly and have a quick increase in intensity, right after ignition. Small fires can quickly become large fires and exhibit extreme fire intensity, such as long-distance spotting and fire whirls. These fires can be difficult to control and will often become much larger and longer-lasting fires.

CAMPING, COOKING AND WARMING FIRES MUST BE DEAD OUT AND COLD TO THE TOUCH.
