The official 2025-26 snowfall season map is here. Persistent cold led to an abundance of lake effect snow and synoptic snow, which led to an overwhelming majority of the region realizing above normal snowfall for the season... particularly across the Straits region .

Crews will be working on gravel shoulder restoration activities this week throughout the county. Please use caution in work zones.

Chip seal work has started today and will continue through this week on the following roads in Otsego County:

Old 27 N – (Congdon Rd to Fairview Rd)
Poquette Rd – (Old 27 N to Goslow Rd)
Van Tyle Rd – (S Townline Rd to Dickerson Rd)
Hayes Tower Rd – (Mancelona Rd to Lake Manuka Rd)
Old Alba Rd – (Hayes Tower Rd to Plywood Rd)

Please use caution when driving in these areas as there will be loose stones on the road surface. It is advised to keep speeds at or below 35mph in these areas to prevent stones from damaging vehicles. Road commissions chip seal roads to extend their life by preserving this critical infrastructure. Applying liquid asphalt and then embedding fine stones on the road surface creates a protective layer that acts as a shield against moisture seeping into the pavement and reduces sun oxidation and the heavy wear-and-tear of everyday traffic to the asphalt.

Sleeping giants! 3 new trucks ready to be built for plowing operations. Road Commissions in Michigan purchase truck chassis and each one has to then be built with equipment specifically designed for road maintenance operations. It can take more than a year once a truck chassis is ordered to receive it and have it outfitted to plowing specs. These are not “off the shelf” trucks built at the factory. The OCRC has a fleet of 36 plow trucks. A fully equipped plow truck has increased substantially over the past few years now at $360,000 each.

As a result of recent flooding, some roads in Otsego County remain impacted. Most are passable with water over the road. Please exercise caution when traveling on the following roads:
