We had a great time coming together for our annual fire department banquet—an opportunity to celebrate the hard work, teamwork, and dedication that make this department what it is.

The night was especially meaningful as we recognized Erin Swenson on his retirement after 31 years of service. From long nights on calls to mentoring the next generation, Erin has truly made a difference.

Thank you for everything you’ve given to this department and community.

Sibley County fire departments recently came together for Electric Vehicle Response Training, strengthening our ability to safely and effectively handle incidents involving EVs.

As electric vehicles become more common on our roadways, joint training like this ensures responders across the county are aligned on tactics, safety considerations, and best practices. Collaboration today means safer outcomes for our firefighters and our community tomorrow.

If you haven’t already heard…

🚨 ICY ROADS – DRIVE WITH CAUTION 🚨

Freezing temperatures have created slick and icy road conditions across our area. Please slow down and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going.

❄️ Reduce your speed
❄️ Increase following distance
❄️ Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
❄️ Bridges and overpasses freeze first

If you don’t have to travel, consider staying home until conditions improve. Stay safe and look out for one another. 🚒

🚒 WINTER WEATHER SAFETY ALERT ❄️
From Your Local Fire Department

As snow and ice move into the area, we’re asking all drivers to take extra precautions on the roads. Winter conditions can change quickly, and your safety—and the safety of others—depends on staying alert and prepared.

❄️ Safe Driving Tips for Snowy Roads

🔹 Slow Down
Speed limits are based on ideal conditions. Reduce your speed and give yourself plenty of time to react.

🔹 Increase Following Distance
Leave at least 5–6 seconds between you and the vehicle ahead to account for longer stopping distances on ice and snow.

🔹 Clear Your Vehicle Completely
Remove all snow and ice from windows, mirrors, headlights, taillights, and the roof before driving.

🔹 Use Headlights
Even during the day, headlights improve visibility—for you and for other drivers.

🔹 Avoid Sudden Movements
Accelerate, brake, and steer gently to prevent skidding.

🔹 Stay Back from Plows and Emergency Vehicles
Give plows plenty of room to work. If you see emergency lights, slow down and move over.

🔹 Pack a Winter Emergency Kit
Include blankets, water, a flashlight, snacks, a phone charger, and a small shovel in case you become stuck.

If you must travel, plan ahead and let someone know your route.
Your local fire department is here for you—help us keep our community safe by driving responsibly in winter weather.

Stay safe and stay warm! ❄️🚒
