🚒 WINTER WEATHER SAFETY ALERT ❄️
From Your Local Fire Department
As snow and ice move into the area, we’re asking all drivers to take extra precautions on the roads. Winter conditions can change quickly, and your safety—and the safety of others—depends on staying alert and prepared.
❄️ Safe Driving Tips for Snowy Roads
🔹 Slow Down
Speed limits are based on ideal conditions. Reduce your speed and give yourself plenty of time to react.
🔹 Increase Following Distance
Leave at least 5–6 seconds between you and the vehicle ahead to account for longer stopping distances on ice and snow.
🔹 Clear Your Vehicle Completely
Remove all snow and ice from windows, mirrors, headlights, taillights, and the roof before driving.
🔹 Use Headlights
Even during the day, headlights improve visibility—for you and for other drivers.
🔹 Avoid Sudden Movements
Accelerate, brake, and steer gently to prevent skidding.
🔹 Stay Back from Plows and Emergency Vehicles
Give plows plenty of room to work. If you see emergency lights, slow down and move over.
🔹 Pack a Winter Emergency Kit
Include blankets, water, a flashlight, snacks, a phone charger, and a small shovel in case you become stuck.
If you must travel, plan ahead and let someone know your route.
