Would anyone like to possess an ubercool papier mache mountain? It's time to say goodbye to last summer's collaborative art project, and YOU could be the proud owner of this beauty! It stands 2' high and weighs probably 11 pounds.

Are there any metal detectorists out there?
The theme for our summer programming this year is "Unearth a Story" which can be taken in a number of different directions. Dinosaurs will be a major player, but I thought it would be neat to have a metal detector program. I have one detectorist who's interested, but want to see if I can unearth a couple more.
This photo is from the British smash hit comedy series "Detectorists" which you can check out at the G**s Mills Public Library.

For National Library Week, we would love for you to share one thing that you love about our library!

I, your trusty assistant librarian, will start.

One of my favorite things about our library is our library director, David Gibbs. From silly story hours to killer crafting to keeping things running smoothly, he always puts his best foot forward! Thanks David, for all you do.

Who's next? What's a favorite thing about our library?

Collective Nouns for Librarians
by Sally Miller

A group of librarians is called a cardigan.

A collection of empty chairs is called an author reading.

A collection of Eric Carle books covered in spit-up is called a storytime.

A group of exhausted mothers covered in spit-up is also called a storytime.

A cluster of teens reading quietly is called a mystery.

A pile of books gathering dust is called a hold shelf.

A handful of change is called a budget.

A stack of books on a nightstand is called a magical thinking.

A group of people who only remember “the cover was blue” is called a patron.

A plastic prize tub of stickers is called a summer reading program.

A collection of missing pieces is called a community jigsaw.

A group of retirees is called a Scrabble night.

A shelf of books in alphabetical order is called a miracle.

A group of shushing librarians is called a cliché.

A group of underfunded libraries is called a tragedy.

Stormy Weather...

So, okay, not quite the same as what Etta James was talking about, but still. It sounds like things are going to get a little nasty this afternoon. For the safety of our staff and patrons, the library will be closing at 3:30 today.

Come get some books, dvds, magazines, or games to help you weather the storm!

"Don't know why
There's no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain't together
Keeps raining all of the time"
