Another Wednesday Night, Another Highly Successful Training.

Tonight’s scenario was a “Light and Fight” in the first and second story’s of a block house.

Utilizing rural firefighting tactics, water was dumped in a porta-tank and drafted to the engine via the front bumper intake on our new engine.

We also used the ladder truck to perform aerial vertical ventilation.

Scenarios like this are the closest thing to a real life incident. This provides critical, realistic experience to members in all fireground roles.

Tonight’s training was an excellent one!!

A local resident graciously allowed us to utilize a home set to be razed. We combined live fire, RIT, low visibility search, and ladder rescue into a mock house fire scenario.

By utilizing live fire on the second floor via the front staircase many of our newer members were able to get a taste of smoke, heat, and fire behavior. It also was a great interior operations refresher for our veteran members.

The live fire on the second floor created a hot and very smoky environment on the third floor . This made an excellent environment to conduct low visibility search and rescue training up the rear staircase of the residence.

To top it off, in conjunction with the 3rd floor operations the ladder truck was used to simulate extrication of a victim via an upper floor window.

Unique trainings like these keep the GFD sharp and ready for any scenario.

Please plan accordingly.

Tonight’s training consisted of some live wildfire scenarios.

Controlled burns, like this, promote healthy new growth as well as removing dead dry vegetation.

While the burn season is winding down for this spring. Feel free to reach out if you have areas that may benefit from this type of controlled burn in the Geneseo area. We would be happy to assist or advise on safe burning practices.

And once again. Thanks!
