Imperialist war, even a nuclear World War III, looms around the corner. Climate change threatens the entire planet. These threats and others demonstrate that capitalism is a system in crisis, incapable of creating a decent fut
ure for youth, students, and workers everywhere. The SUNY Geneseo chapter of the International Youth and Students for Social Equality seeks to mobilize students and young workers in the struggle for the only viable alternative to capitalism: socialism. The IYSSE is dedicated to the defense of democratic rights, opposition to war, and the arming of students, youth, and workers with a socialist perspective. To do so, we hold weekly meetings to engage students and workers and orient members toward the working class. All interested people are welcome to attend meetings, regardless of major or enrollment status. Meetings include a political report on recent events given by an IYSSE member, highlighting relevant historical and theoretical issues. These reports and subsequent discussion are integral to our perspective for work on campus. Organizational matters, including planning events, are considered after discussion. Previous Events:
• Meeting on the Ukrainian crisis: A summary of the immediate and historical causes of the ongoing Ukrainian crisis and the importance of a socialist and internationalist policy to stop war.
• International May Day: A screening of the May Day event hosted by the International Committee of the Fourth International, with discussion afterwards. Future Events:
• Screening of Tsar to Lenin: Movie concerning the February and October Revolutions of 1917 and the founding of the Soviet Union.
• Talks by Socialist Equality Party members: SEP members will give talks on a variety of subjects, including economic inequality, the threat of war, aesthetics, science, and philosophy.
