At today’s press conference, I asked Eric Sorensen a simple question: why does a $2,500 corporate check carry more weight than the concerns of hardworking families In Galva & across Illinois’ 17th District?

Parents and families in Galva are speaking out, not with hate, but with concerns and questions, yet their voices continue to be overshadowed by corporate money.

At a time when families need leadership and accountability, they deserve a representative who listens to them, so Eric it’s time to answer them or else they will elect someone else who will.

I opposed this year’s largest-in-history state budget, which only provided pennies in relief while delivering undeserved pay raises for politicians worth thousands. This budget continues funding for misplaced priorities like healthcare for illegal immigrants and it punts fixing downstate road fund raids until summer.

That being said, Illinois House Democrats were more open than past years about the annual spending plan but communicating earlier would have saved millions of dollars by incorporating Republican ideas which enjoy popular support like no tax on tips and overtime, as well as real gas price relief.

HB4999 will be heard in the House Gun Violence Prevention Committee, and the ISRA is asking members to file a witness slip in SUPPORT.

Let’s be clear:
We do NOT support red flag laws.

But under current Illinois law, someone can file a Clear and Present Danger report against you and you may never know who accused you.

That is wrong.

HB4999 helps restore due process by allowing disclosure of the accuser’s identity when ordered by the courts or FOID Review Board. Law-abiding citizens deserve the ability to defend themselves against false, malicious, retaliatory, or politically motivated accusations.

And accountability matters.

When people know their names may eventually be disclosed, they are far less likely to abuse the system with questionable or bad-faith reports.

Transparency protects rights.

Anonymous accusations should never be enough to destroy someone’s constitutional freedoms.
