I always enjoy meeting young people who are interested in learning more about how their government works.

Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting three outstanding high school students at the Capitol who shadowed me for the day. It was a great opportunity to give them a behind-the-scenes look at state government, discuss the issues impacting our communities, and share how the legislative process works. Thank you for visiting Albany, asking thoughtful questions, and taking an active interest in public service.

After nearly two months of delays, we finally have a state budget. A staggering $269 billion state budget, the largest and one of the latest budgets in New York history. New Yorkers don’t have the luxury of endlessly increasing their budgets every year, and state government shouldn’t either.

This kind of reckless spending is exactly why people are leaving New York and why hardworking families feel like they can’t get ahead. That’s why I voted NO on this bloated budget.

The legislature is done with the session next week, but the drawn-out budget fight has left lawmakers just six legislative days to vote on non-budget items before they hit the campaign trail.

I was honored to participate in the Memorial Day Service at the New York State Veterans Cemetery of the Finger Lakes as we recognized 34 Purple Heart recipients Interred at the Cemetery and paid tribute to two remarkable veterans with ties to Sampson.

We were proud to honor World War II Sampson Navy Veteran Lloyd Evans and Sampson Air Force Veteran Dr. Ken Padgett for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation. Their stories, along with the sacrifice of all who have worn the uniform, remind us why Memorial Day will always hold such deep meaning in our communities and across our country. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

This morning, I joined members of the community at the Village of Clifton Springs’ Veteran Memorial Park this Memorial Day to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Today serves as a solemn reminder that the
freedoms we enjoy were secured by Americans who gave everything for our country. Thank you to everyone who came together to ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.

EMS professionals don’t know what kind of emergency awaits them when they're called, but they show up ready to help every single time.

During EMS Week, we thank the paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and emergency medical personnel across our communities for the lifesaving work they do every single day.

This week, I had the chance to meet with an incredible group of 4-H students from Seneca County at the Capitol! It was great hearing about their experiences, goals, and all the amazing things they’re doing through 4-H.

Programs like 4-H do such an important job helping young people build leadership skills, responsibility, and confidence that will benefit them for years to come. Thank you all for stopping by the Capitol and sharing your stories.

Recently, along with my Finger Lakes legislative colleagues, we sent a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul calling on her to take immediate action regarding the rising lake levels impacting the Finger Lakes Region.

In the letter, we called for the creation of a targeted emergency recovery and resiliency funding program to help homeowners, local governments, and businesses impacted by flooding caused by high lake levels. We also highlighted Assembly Bill A.10117, legislation designed to improve regional coordination and flood mitigation efforts in the Finger Lakes and the Oswego River Basin.

Residents across the region deserve action and a long-term strategy from the state to help protect homes, businesses, and infrastructure moving forward.

Across the district today, many school budgets and school board elections are up for a vote by local taxpayers. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to get out and vote. Your voice matters, and these decisions have a direct impact on our students and communities.

13 budget extenders, and Democrats still can’t get a state budget done.

Tomorrow, school districts across New York will ask taxpayers to vote on budgets without even knowing how much state funding they will receive. That’s unacceptable.

Instead of focusing on getting a late budget finished, Kathy Hochul is busy trying to bail out Zohran Mamdani and the financial disaster unfolding in New York City. This is what happens when one-party rule turns into dysfunction and chaos.

The extender funds state government through Wednesday.

Over the past few days, my office has been contacted by several constituents concerned about the reported hantavirus case in Ontario County. Just this past week, I had the opportunity to attend a briefing with the New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, and yesterday I also spoke directly with Ontario County Public Health Director Kate Ott regarding the situation. At this time, there is no health threat to the public.

It is important to understand that, according to public health officials, the only strain of hantavirus believed to spread through human-to-human interaction is the Andes strain, which is found in South America. That is also the same strain that is being found on the cruise ship making global headlines. Hantavirus cases found in the United States are not spread through person to person contact. Individuals typically contract the virus through exposure to mouse or rodent droppings.

For anyone with additional questions or concerns, I encourage you to contact your county health department.
