We’d like to thank Hunter, Hook & Ladder Vol. Fire Company for the invitation to complete aerial ladder training together last night along with other area companies. While it is not often that we work together, high hazard locations such as this, require resources to travel a large distance so it was great to get familiar with the area and for departments to become better acquainted with each other. We look forward to the next training opportunity.

The White Springs Fire Association would like to thank Dr. Jim Modera from the Garnsey Outpatient Rehab Center at GGH for leading our drill this evening.

Dr. Modera, along with his staff members Jacob and Dillon, came to drill tonight to teach our members proper lifting mechanics.

This drill focused on firefighter functional lifting mechanics to ensure our members are not only helping you during an emergency, but also protecting their own selves from injury.

Dr. Modera took us through scenarios including dummy drags, hoisting tools from an elevated position, partner lifts, backboard lifts, and safely removing patients from vehicles.

Members walked away with greater awareness of little ways to ensure their own safety and providers got to see a little about how the first responders function in their roles.

Thank you again to Dr. Modera and his team for donating your time to work with us tonight!

We’d like to congratulate the following members of the White Springs Fire Association for completing the New York State Basic Passenger Vehicle Rescue course:

Assistant Chief Nick Madia
Fire Lieutenant Ronnie Martin
Firefighter Matt Alexander
Probationary Firefighter Raymond Jones

Members spent portions of four days over the last week driving out to Cato, NY to participate in this course where they learned the skills necessary to rescue patients entrapped in vehicles during car accidents.

This course is a great example of the level of training and dedication your local volunteers have; members like Firefighter Jones completed their first formal course while others like Chief Madia re-took the course to expand existing knowledge with modern practices.

Congratulations again and thank you to all for completing this course!
