that the first major relief effort for the American Red Cross was in response to a dam breach?

On May 31, 1889 the dam in Johnstown, PA failed, killing more than 2000 people. The tragedy changed dam construction requirements as well as American law - Law changed from fault-based to strict liability.

Kane County Office of Emergency Management participated in the American Red Cross of Illinois training exercise. Within two hours of the call, teams had mobilized and begun setting up a 100-bed shelter.

No organization or agency can fulfill every need in a disaster. Partnerships like these are essential.

and remember communication is key. Riders and drivers should review the signals used for turns. Wear a helmet that fits. and give bikers room, even if there isn’t a designated bike lane.

Thirteen families have received a folded flag this year, marking the final chapter of the life of a US serviceman. Today, Kane County Office of Emergency Management asks that you take time to reflect and respect our military families who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country.

During a stroke, you lose as many as 2 million brain cells per minute. If you suspect a stroke, be a superhero like The Flash: B.E.F.A.S.T.

Balance: Loss of balance or coordination.
Eyes: Changes in your vision, like losing sight in one or both eyes or starting to see double vision.
Face: Drooping facial features on one side of the face.
Arms (and legs): Weakness in one of your (or someone else’s) limbs.
Speech: Slurring words or otherwise having difficulty speaking or understanding others.
Time: Don’t take a “wait and see” approach. Call 911 or emergency services immediately.
