Today 5/27/2026 just before lunch we received a call that a complainant had witnessed a vehicle stop and drop off a dog just south of Slocomb City Limits off Geneva County Road 91. One of our Deputies was in that area and responded to the scene and found the dog. The dog appears to be in good health was friendly and was well taken care. It is a small dog and is currently being taken care of by one of our staff. If you are missing a small dog that someone might have stolen please contact our Office or Dispatch. If you can describe the dog you are missing and it matches we would love to reunite you with your animal. If not one of our staff members is going to keep the dog and take care of it. It was a case of "love at first sight" and will have a forever home.

After 14 weeks of intense training at the Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center we now have a new certified Deputy that will begin his field training next week. Steven Kogelschatz, who is also a military veteran, graduated this past Thursday. He was vice president of his class and also received the Commanders Award for leadership and achievement. He has been working as transport Deputy at the jail for several months and will be moving to the road on Monday.

We would like to alert the public to recent scams in our area. Individuals are posing as licensed bail bondsmen and contacting citizens to request money for inmate bonding services.

Please remain vigilant and verify any bonding company before making a payment or sharing personal information.

There is also an additional scam involving messages claiming to be from the Alabama Department of Revenue requesting online payments through a link.

We have been asked to make a post to remind everyone that political signs are paid for by the candidate and his
/her supporters. It is illegal to steal these signs. If you have a sign on your property that you do not want reach out to that candidate, we are sure they would rather come pick it up than have to pay for another one. Thank you!
