Distracted driving has become a major issue on our roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 315,157 people were injured in 2024 due to distracted driving.

The Lutzie 43 Foundation, founded by Mike Lutzenkirchen, encourages every driver to take 43 Key Seconds to set yourself up for a safe trip — for you and for everyone else on the road.

Mike lost his son, Philip, who played tight end at Auburn University, in a motor vehicle accident in 2014. Mike's mission is to raise awareness of and put an end to distracted, impaired, and unsafe driving.

Remember, if you take your eyes off the road for more than two seconds, your crash risk increases.

✨GCSO Staff Spotlight✨

Meet Jaycie Coleman, who serves as a Records Clerk for the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office. Originally from Geneva, Jaycie has been working for our office for the last 2 years and says the best part of her job is the people she meets.

Outside of the office, she enjoys photography and esthetics and says the one thing people need to know about her is “I’m a very open minded and nonjudgmental person. I always try to look on the bright side.”

When asked to name one person who inspires her, Jaycie cites her grandmother is her greatest inspiration.

Found safe.

Update: Kingston Abduction Case - Kingston has been found safe in Montgomery, Alabama. While the child is unharmed, the suspect remains at large and is actively wanted on a Kidnapping warrant.

AMBER Alert Kingston Thomas, 2 y/o b/m abducted. Last seen wearing yellow shirt and blue shorts. Abductor is believed to be driving a blue 2010 Hyundai Genesis with AL plate A21TE2. Last seen on Three Notch Rd in Enterprise, AL around 5 pm. If seen or if you have information call 911 or *HP.

Today 5/27/2026 just before lunch we received a call that a complainant had witnessed a vehicle stop and drop off a dog just south of Slocomb City Limits off Geneva County Road 91. One of our Deputies was in that area and responded to the scene and found the dog. The dog appears to be in good health was friendly and was well taken care. It is a small dog and is currently being taken care of by one of our staff. If you are missing a small dog that someone might have stolen please contact our Office or Dispatch. If you can describe the dog you are missing and it matches we would love to reunite you with your animal. If not one of our staff members is going to keep the dog and take care of it. It was a case of "love at first sight" and will have a forever home.

After 14 weeks of intense training at the Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center we now have a new certified Deputy that will begin his field training next week. Steven Kogelschatz, who is also a military veteran, graduated this past Thursday. He was vice president of his class and also received the Commanders Award for leadership and achievement. He has been working as transport Deputy at the jail for several months and will be moving to the road on Monday.
