UPDATE 08-04-2026: The juveniles and their parents were contacted and the situation has been handled. We support the public’s understanding and cooperation!

Last night, a group of juveniles playing around ended up vandalizing the fountain in front of the court house, then filled it with rocks. Please remind your children to respect the property of others and to not trespass after hours.

We are saddened to learn about the passing of Crete Police Chief, Gary Young. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and department. Gary was a great man who will be missed.

City of Crete departments and staff are deeply saddened by the passing yesterday, July 27, of Chief of Police Gary Young. He served the Crete Police Department honorably for 41 years and was appointed Chief in 2022. A true public servant, Young was dedicated to the safety of his community and worked hard to make sure the department and officers in his command were successful in meeting the needs of residents. His commitment to the highest ideals of law enforcement and service to the Crete community will not be forgotten.

The thoughts of City of Crete staff are with his family, friends, and fellow officers during this difficult time.

It was a hot but fun filled weekend at the Fillmore County Fair! Deputy Kotas drank himself about fifteen sweet tea's 🧋and Sgt. Schleich gave Joey Chestnut a run for his money on how many hot dogs one man can eat 🌭. We also had a great time taking part in the Shickley Longhorn Day's parade!

This is Elo.
Elo is an exchange student from Europe who will be in the Fillmore County area selling books. Elo has obtained the approved merchant license for the town of Geneva. Don't be afraid if she shows up on your doorstep, she's harmless 😊.

Overall we will be drying out and heating up over the next several days for most locations. Rain chances will be low at 20-30% and any showers and thunderstorms will likely be few and far between. The big story will be the increasing heat with widespread 90s and even a few Kansas highs over 100 by Tuesday afternoon.
