And that’s a wrap -- for Week 1 of Summer School! The summer school kids in Shakespeare in a Week had a blast performing a short play based on the novel, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. They pulled it all together, sets, props, and acting in just 3 hours of time, and boy was it entertaining! They had it all, love, laughter, and tragedy!

In Week 1 of the Under the Sea session for our 4k and 5k students -- they explored ocean animals! They learned about the ocean habitat, sea turtles, octopuses, and fish. Students learned through songs, books, projects, and play!

Our Genoa City summer school students and community partnership with the Genoa City Public Library had the opportunity to learn from a true world-class performer and motivational speaker: David Fisher, better known as The Rope Warrior.

David is far more than an incredible jump rope athlete. He is a multiple-time Guinness World Record holder who has performed around the world, appeared on national television, and shared his message with millions of students. Through his remarkable skills and engaging storytelling, he inspires young people to embrace perseverance, healthy habits, goal setting, and resilience.

During today's event, students were captivated by his amazing jump rope demonstrations while learning an important lesson: success doesn't happen overnight. It is built through practice, determination, and a willingness to keep going when things get difficult.

Thank you, David, for bringing your energy, passion, and positive message to our summer school program. Our students left inspired to challenge themselves, stay active, and never give up.

Thank you, Genoa City Public Library, for running your Storywagon programs at Brookwood Middle School this summer!! All Storywagon programs are FREE and open to the community to attend.

Session 1 of Summer School wrapped up today! Students in Mrs. Erickson's cooking class finished the week by making Nachos! Students learned about meat preparation and safety, diced up some tomatoes, and then prepared their feast! It was a crowd favorite!

The final day of Lightweight Aircraft was more about lightweight boats than it was about planes! Students had to design and build a boat out of tin foil that was able to float and hold cargo (washers). We then tested the boats in our kiddie pool! Our top boat was able to hold 69 washers!

Students in our summer Forestry class have been exploring the various plants and vegetation found in our school forest, as well as learning about the different types of homes animals create and use for shelter. As part of this class, students even designed and built their own animal homes! Now we're excited to see if any wildlife will decide to move in and make them their own.

Passport to the World – Summer School Adventure
Hola! Buongiorno! Welcome to Passport to the World, where our summer has been filled with hands‑on adventures, global discoveries, and lots of delicious food. So far, our travels have taken us to Mexico and Italy, where we explored new languages, learned fun cultural facts, played games, and created art inspired by each country. We even engineered our own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, testing our problem‑solving skills and creativity.

One of the class favorites has definitely been the food tasting. In Mexico, we made warm sopapillas and cheesy quesadillas. During our stop in Italy, we cooled off with Italian ice and crafted our own pizzas topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and of course a little pepperoni for extra flavor. Every day has been a new adventure, and our passports are filling up fast.

Today, we headed off to France—bon voyage!
