Genoa Homecoming is here!

With Homecoming festivities taking place throughout the community, please expect increased pedestrian traffic, especially near the Veterans Memorial Park, the parade route, and downtown Genoa.

A few reminders to help keep everyone safe:

• Slow down and stay alert.
• Watch carefully for people crossing streets.
• Obey all traffic control devices and directions from law enforcement and event staff.
• Do not drive around barricades or road closures, even if the roadway appears clear.
• Allow extra travel time and be patient with traffic delays. Main Street will close from 13th to 5th for the parade.

Homecoming is a great tradition that brings our community together. A little extra caution behind the wheel can help ensure everyone gets home safely.

Annual Hose Testing

The St. John’s Church in Genoa will be the site of our annual fire hose testing.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to St. John’s for allowing us to use their property for this important operation.

During this time, you may notice fire apparatus, hoses laid out, and increased activity in the area. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience.

Why hose testing matters:
Fire hose testing is a critical part of ensuring our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to perform when it matters most. Each hose is inspected and pressure-tested to verify it can handle the demands of emergency operations.

Traffic Note:
Please use the south drive for entrance and exit while testing is underway.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of your fire department.

If your spring cleaning doesn’t include the dryer vent… you’re not done yet. Lint buildup is one of the leading causes of home fires. Clean it out today.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

This week, we recognize the voices behind the scenes—the calm in the chaos.

Every time you dial 911, a trained professional answers. They gather critical information, provide life-saving instructions, and dispatch help—often all within seconds. While you may never see them on scene, their impact is felt in every call we respond to.

Our dispatchers are the first first responders. They are the steady voice when someone is having their worst day, and they play a vital role in every emergency.

Please join us in thanking our public safety telecommunicators for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community.

We couldn’t do what we do without them.

🚨Stay Informed. Stay Safe.🚨

The Ottawa County EMA - Ohio uses mass notification systems to quickly alert the public during emergencies. Two of the primary systems are ☝🏼IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert and Warning System) and ✌🏼 WENS (Wireless Emergency Notification System).

1️⃣ IPAWS is a FEMA-managed platform that serves as the nationwide backbone for emergency alerts. It allows authorized officials to send urgent notifications through multiple channels — including WEA: Wireless Emergency Alerts (mobile phones 📱), Emergency Alert System messages (TV 📺 and radio 📻), NOAA Weather Radio, and internet services. These alerts can be issued at the local, regional, or national level.

2️⃣ WENS is a local public notification system designed to rapidly share important information with residents about incidents or situations that may impact daily activities in our community.
