🎣 Kids Fishing Day 2026 was a huge success!
We had an amazing turnout at Kids Fishing Day on Saturday, May 16, 2026 — over 350 people joined us! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the morning and support the hatchery. Your enthusiasm helps us continue fostering a love for the outdoors in the next generation.
This event truly wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our community. A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers; the Friends of the Upper Mississippi; Friends of Pool 9; Federal and State Wardens; Genoa EMT; the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; USFWS staff; and the Roch Kendrick Foundation. Your dedication makes events like this possible.
It was a beautiful morning spent outside—kids smiling, fishing, learning, and connecting with nature. Thank you for helping create these meaningful moments for families!

Calling all youth anglers’ ages 5-12 years old! Come and enjoy a morning of learning and fishing @ the Genoa National Fish Hatchery for our Kids Fishing Day!

Saturday, May 16, 2026

The event will be from 8:45am -12pm!
Registration begins 8:45am - 9:00am
Learning stations 9:00am-11:00am

Young anglers will receive a passport to carry around and explore different learning stations on the hatchery grounds. The learning stations focus on fish ID and habitats, fisheries conservation, boat safety, Freshwater Mussels and more. Anglers will need to get at least four stamps on their passport before they will be set loose on a hatchery pond stocked with 2,000 10-14 inch rainbow trout to test their newfound fishing knowledge.

Poles and bait are provided. No outside bait allowed. Due to safety concerns and space limitations, no artificial lures, fly fishing, and/or treble hooks will be allowed at the event.
Hope to see you there!
