This morning shortly after 8 am, the GFD was dispatched for a truck rollover on NY 34 North. Initially, the single vehicle MVA was believed to be in the Scipio, Venice, Ledyard Fire District so their units were dispatched and responding. When Long Hill Car 2 arrived and assumed command, he requested our Rescue/Engine as the call was in our district. Engine 2, and Cars 1,2, and 3 responded. With the driver and his 4 legged passenger self extricated, and with the vehicle off the road, units turned the scene over to the law and Four Town Ambulance transported one to Upstate Trauma center for treatment. Our units and personnel were back in service by 8:30 am. Good work by all.

Yesterday, the GFD held our annual summer family picnic. Our active and life members joined several of our mutual aid partners, community officials, and many individuals who help support our mission throughout the year. This event is a chance for our extended family to come together and share a relaxing afternoon of great food, refreshments and most importantly fellowship. We were honored to have Sheriff - Brian Schenck and his wife in attendance and took that opportunity to recognize him for an outstanding career of service and dedication to the citizens and first responders of Cayuga County.

New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) keeps up the good work of the coalition by setting the record straight.
The volunteer fire service is in dire straits and needs every option available to survive and remain capable of protecting our communities.
Is the topic of nominal compensation on the agenda this week at the FASNY convention? Doubt it.

This is not sustainable. Public safety should be priority one. For far too many years Cayuga County 911 has taken a back seat and that needs to change. They are true professionals but they can only do so much. A crucial part of the team, they are a true “life line” that helps us help you. EVERYONES safety depends on that center. We encourage you, your friends and family make your voices heard. Call your local representative and tell them to do their job.

Shelly DelFavero has been working as a 911 dispatcher for 25 years. She said there are more than 100 shifts each month that need to be covered because the 911 center is so short-staffed.
