Sheriff Bailey and the KCSO were kindly visited by members of the Emergency Care of Floresville earlier today, who dropped off some goodies in support of their Hometown Heroes program.

Patriot Day 2026

Friday, September 11th, 2026 marks the 25 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed in suburban Pennsylvania. Patriot Day serves as a remembrance of the lives lost on that September morning.

By a joint resolution approved 12/18/2001, (Public Law 107-89) has designated September 11th of each year as "Patriot Day" which also directs the flags be lowered to half-staff for the entire day on September 11.

A section of the law is below:

''§ 144. Patriot Day''(a) DESIGNATION.-September 11 is Patriot Day.''(b) PROCLAMATION.-The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation calling on-

''(1) State and local governments and the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate programs and activities;

''(2) all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States and interested organizations and individuals to display the flag of the United States at halfstaff on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001; and'

'(3) the people of the United States to observe a moment of silence on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001.''..

Thanks to our friends at Speedy Stop, we’re hosting a very special Coffee With a Cop event on September 17th beginning at 7:30 AM at the Public Safety Headquarters, 2525 N. Main St.

This one is going to be a little different!

Come meet Richard Hoxworth, a former Victoria Police Department officer who served our community decades ago. Mr. Hoxworth’s family has graciously loaned us his original VPD uniform from the 1950s, which will be proudly displayed at PSHQ for everyone to see! Hear Mr. Hoxworth talk about his time at VPD and a Q&A session beginning at 8:30 in the PSHQ Community Room.

A very special thank you to Hobby Lobby for helping us with the display!

While you’re here, grab a cup of coffee, take a look at a little piece of VPD history, and visit with some of our current VPD employees about what it’s like to be part of the best department in the region!

the Goliad Tiger Varsity Football Team welcomes all first responders and military personnel FREE to the game!
Please call the Athletic Office at 361-645-2833 and let Mrs. Lacey know you will be attending. Your name will be added to the list for entry.
We also invite our first responders and military personnel to LEAD THE TIGERS OUT OF THE TUNNEL! Please arrive at the south end near the tunnel by 7:10 PM.
