🚨🚑 GEMS is excited to announce that we have a new member to our team!! Welcome Jayda Hinrichsen to GEMS. 🚑🚨

🎉Let’s get to know Jayda a little more! 🎉

Jayda’s favorite way to spend a weekend is binge watching a good show and crafting, such as Diamond art, candle making, or coloring.

One meal she could eat for the rest of her life would be chicken Alfredo.

The best piece of advice she has ever received is: It wouldn’t be possible to win without some sort of loss.

👋Please welcome Jayda ❤️

WINTER STORM UPDATE - 3:45 PM on Saturday

Winter weather alerts have been pushed out as we wait on this system to make its way into our area. Snow has already started to the North, as we have snow bands moving along the ND/SD border at this time.

Snow will continue to push to the South and East, as later tonight the SF area will see a rain-snow mix that will transition to just snow as we get into our Sunday. A Blizzard warning (shown in red) takes effect at 4 am Sunday and will stay in effect until Monday at 1am.

The blizzard warning for Sioux Falls and the metro area is for snow accumulations up to two inches, and winds in excess of 50 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions.

As you go farther north, snow totals increase, with Aberdeen expecting 10-18 inches, and Watertown expecting 8-18 inches of snow.

As of now, the Sioux Falls Metro area is only expecting 2 inches, but if snow bands push farther South, snow totals may increase.

Stick with us at TSC for updates!

🫶🏼We are very thankful we have 14 dedicated volunteers on GEMS. The below was taken from a post made by Tristate Scanner. Something to think about.🙌🏻

🚑 **Rural Communities Need Volunteer EMTs — Now More Than Ever**

In many rural communities, emergency medical services rely heavily on volunteers. Without them, help simply doesn’t come as fast — or sometimes at all.

Right now, there are places where there is only about a **30% chance that an EMT is available** when a call for help comes in.

Think about that for a moment.

If someone you love collapsed, was in a car crash, or had a medical emergency…
**Would you want them sitting on the ground waiting for help that might not be available?**

Volunteer EMTs are often neighbors helping neighbors. They step away from dinner tables, family events, and sleep to respond when someone in their community needs them most.

These volunteers are the difference between:
• Waiting… or getting help
• Hoping… or knowing someone is on the way
• A tragedy… or a life saved

Rural EMS systems are struggling to recruit and keep volunteers, but **you could be part of the solution**.

If you’ve ever thought about serving your community, consider becoming a **volunteer EMT or first responder**. Training is often provided, and departments will help guide you through the process.

You don’t have to be a hero.
You just have to be willing to help.

Because someday the call might be for **your neighbor, your friend… or someone you love.**

Don't know where to start? Reach out and we guide you on who to contact.

🚑❤️🚨Thank you to our incredible community for showing up and supporting the GEMS at yesterday’s fundraiser! We served 551 plates of waffles and truly enjoyed seeing and visiting with everyone. Because of your generosity and support, we’re one step closer to purchasing a new defibrillator, equipment that helps us better serve and protect our community. We couldn’t do this without you. ❤️🚨🚑

January is recognized as Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the need for preventative measures and enhanced cancer coverage for Iowa's fire service members. 🚒

‼️Did you know occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths for firefighters in Iowa and across the US? Firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer. ‼️

We were able to secure a grant through the Local Fire Protection & EMS (LFPEMS) Grant Program to purchase a turnout gear washer extractor! These machines help us keep our gear clean and reducing our risk of carcinogens, harmful smoke and toxic fumes we often encounter during and after fires.

Thanks to Siebring Manufacturing and George Cooperative Farmers Elevator Lumber’s donations we were able to build a gear drying apparatus to dry our coats, pants and gloves all in one system!
