City contractor helping with meter reading
While usage information for most water and electric meters can be read with the utility’s automated system, in some cases, meters must be read manually with a technician in the field. The City has hired Putt Bro’s Meter and Hydrant to provide contract technicians to assist City meter readers when manual meter reads are needed.

Water metering components fail over time as they age. City of Georgetown experiences about 100 – 150 new module failures a month, which is similar to other water utilities. Supply chain shortages have impacted our ability to replace these failed components on a timely basis and thus manual meter usage reads are needed.

Customers may see a Putt Bro’s employee in their neighborhood reading meters, especially for City water customers in areas west and north of Georgetown. Putt Bro’s technicians wear vests and have vehicles indicating they are City of Georgetown contractors.

Water report card: Aug. 17-23
Take a look 👀 at our community's water 💧 consumption over the past seven days

☔ Thanks to the rain this has been the lowest average use since the week of Apr. 11.

⬇ We saw our biggest drop in usage Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 47% of our total capacity. Compared to last Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 86% usage, that is almost a 50% decrease.

🚩 One-day watering is still in effect. Even with the much-needed rain, the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is still reporting 15+ inches of rain is needed to bring us to near-normal levels. For information on the drought and our local lake levels check out this link.

💧 Last week's water consumption average for seven days was 95 percent of our treatment capacity
📈 Peak usage occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 17, with water use at 96 percent of our treatment capacity

🌟 Our water wise tip of the week is to make sure the rain/weather detection sensors on your automatic watering systems are working properly. Overwatering and water waste can happen when irrigation systems run on rainy or windy days.

Election on sales tax for street maintenance
Georgetown residents will vote on a street maintenance sales tax when they go to the polls on Nov. 8. Revenue from the 0.25 percent City sales tax is dedicated to resurfacing and repair work on city streets.

State law requires the sales tax to be approved by the voters every four years. The sales tax was first approved by Georgetown voters in 2002 and has since been reauthorized every four years.

The sales tax for street maintenance is collected from anyone who makes purchases in Georgetown city limits, not just homeowners.

The sales tax will generate an estimated $6.5 million in 2022. From 2019-22, the sales tax will have funded the resurfacing or repair of 207 lanes miles of Georgetown streets.

Hank
Pets of the Week
Jaxx, 6, is a smart boy who is always up for a good time. He was adopted from us in 2020 and returned recently due to a change in the adopter’s lifestyle. He lived with a small dog and got along with him very well. In fact, Jaxx has been sad and nervous since his friend was adopted. 😢

He can be shy when meeting new people (especially men) in a shelter setting, but he did extremely well in his home and even went to the groomer every month. He loves toys and food and is house-trained. Once he gets to know you, he likes to play ball ⚽, swim 🏊, and have his ears 👂 rubbed.

Visit the shelter on Saturday, Aug. 27, for . 🆓 Adoption fees currently are waived for medium-to-large adult dogs and cats. You will truly be saving a life by adopting when the shelter is so full of good dogs and cats.

👉Check out all the adoptable animals, and if you see someone you like, contact the shelter at 512-930-3592 or [email protected]. Complete the online application, and make an appointment for priority service.
