The Georgetown Police Department is excited to announce the launch of our new Police Explorer Program this September!

This program is designed for young people interested in:
👮 Law Enforcement
🛡️ Public Safety
⭐ Leadership
🤝 Community Service

Explorers will have the opportunity to learn from police officers, gain hands-on experience, build teamwork and communication skills, and explore careers in law enforcement.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Dawson Gay, Officer Nathan Lucas, and Officer Brenton Walters on their graduation today from the DOCJT Academy in Richmond, KY - Class 572!

We could not be more proud of these three officers. Each of them has worked incredibly hard, pushed through the challenges of the academy, and represented themselves and our agency with professionalism, dedication, and heart. Today, they can proudly look back on everything they accomplished and know that their hard work has paid off.

A special congratulations to Officer Dawson Gay, who served as the Class Adjutant, and Officer Nathan Lucas, who served as the Class Special Projects/Photographer. Both stepped up to take on additional responsibilities and played an important role in making Class 572 a memorable one.

We are also especially proud of Officer Brenton Walters, who had the honor of leading the Benediction during the closing of today's graduation ceremony. It was a fitting and meaningful way to close out this incredible chapter.

Officer Gay, Officer Lucas, and Officer Walters, congratulations on this tremendous accomplishment! We are so proud of each of you and grateful to have you as part of our law enforcement family.

Whether you're walking to school, work, or just enjoying the outdoors, a few simple safety habits can make a big difference.

✅ Use marked crosswalks whenever possible
✅ Look left, right, and left again before crossing
✅ Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the roadway
✅ Stay alert and put phones away while crossing streets
✅ Wear bright or reflective clothing when walking at night
✅ Walk on sidewalks when available

🚗 Drivers: Slow down, stay focused, and always watch for pedestrians—especially near schools, parks, and neighborhoods.

Safety is a shared responsibility. Together, we can help keep everyone safe on our roadways.

Today we’re celebrating the four-legged members of our families—the ones who greet us like we’ve been gone for 10 years, steal our spot on the couch, and somehow convince us that they deserve the last bite.

A few simple steps can help reduce your chances of becoming a victim of vehicle theft.

❌ Never leave your vehicle unlocked and running — even for a quick trip inside. A warm car isn’t worth the risk of coming back to an empty driveway.

✅ Start your vehicle and only let it idle long enough to get settled, buckle your seat belt, and be ready to go.

✅ Use anti-theft devices or vehicle tracking systems when available.

✅ Never hide a spare ignition key inside your vehicle.

✅ Park in a secure garage or in a well-lit area whenever possible.

✅ Consider having your vehicle windows VIN etched. This can assist law enforcement with identifying and recovering stolen vehicles.

🚨 Lock it. Take your keys. Protect your ride. A few seconds of prevention can save you a lot of frustration.

Behind every statistic is a person. A family. A friend. A neighbor. Someone who matters.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, you don't have to face it alone. The Georgetown Police Department’s Recovery Support Team is here to help connect individuals and families with resources, treatment options, recovery support, and a path forward.
