Today deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office had the opportunity to attend the Brown County STEAM event with more than 2,000 middle school students from across our area.

Students asked some great questions and got hands-on experience learning about law enforcement technology and investigations. They learned about our drone program, checked out one of our patrol cruisers, and even had the chance to lift their own fingerprints.

Events like this are a great example of community policing and building positive relationships with the next generation. We appreciate everyone who helped make this event a success and all the students who spent time with us today!

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is committed to doing everything we can to keep our schools safe and our students protected.

Today, K9 teams were deployed in local Brown County schools as part of proactive efforts to detect and deter narcotics. These operations are not about targeting students, they are about creating a safe, drug-free environment where kids can learn and grow without the dangers associated with illegal substances.

We’re grateful to report that everything went smoothly at the schools. This effort would not have been possible without the strong partnerships we have with our fellow law enforcement agencies. We’d like to thank the Williamsburg Police Department, Goshen Township Police Department, Ohio Department of Corrections, and the Highland County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and continued commitment to protecting our communities.

By working together and utilizing tools like our highly trained K9 units, we are taking a proactive approach to keep drugs out of our schools and ensure a safer future for our children.

Deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Brown County Municipal Court Judge Courtney Worley had the pleasure of participating in Fayetteville High School’s FCCLA FACTS (Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety) project.

During the school assembly, our guests spoke with students about the very real impacts and consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The discussion focused on making responsible choices, understanding the legal and life-changing consequences of impaired driving, and the importance of prevention.

Students then took part in hands-on exercises designed to simulate impairment, giving them a firsthand look at how alcohol and drugs can affect vision, coordination, reaction time, and fine motor skills. These interactive demonstrations reinforced just how dangerous impaired driving can be—not only for the driver, but for everyone on the road.

The Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the strong community partnerships that help make programs like this possible. Working together with our schools, courts, and fellow law enforcement agencies allows us to educate, engage, and empower our young people to make safe and responsible decisions.
