Quitman County School District Vision: "Quitman County Students will Graduate and Be Able to Compete in a Global Society" Quitman County School District is a gem in rural Southwest Georgia.

The District has two schools, New Quitman County Elementary which house grades Pre-K - 8 and Quitman County High. At QCSD we believe every child can learn and be proficient in a global society.

This week, Mrs. Young’s 2nd graders put their math thinking to work with a fun hands-on activity called “Bears in a Cave!”
Students used two-sided counters to represent bears and a Ziplock bag to represent the cave. Knowing there were 14 bears in all, students determined how many bears were hiding in the cave and then wrote addition and subtraction equations to show their thinking.
Through this engaging activity, students strengthened their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction while using models to solve problems.

Learning in Action in 1st Grade!

Ms. Johnson’s 1st grade students explored composing and decomposing two-digit numbers by identifying tens and ones this week.
Using manipulatives, visual models, and hands-on practice, our young mathematicians showed how numbers can be broken apart and put back together.

We love seeing our Hornets learning by doing, thinking, and explaining!

Our Quitman Elementary 3rd graders had an exciting opportunity today to attend the 2nd Annual Reading Rally with Malcolm Mitchell at SGTC!

Congratulations to Addilyn Larroy and Kyler Kennedy, who were honored to join the Reading Team! Soriyah Young joined Mr. Mitchell on stage to participate in the read aloud of his book: My Super Duper Me What an awesome way to represent Quitman Elementary and show that reading is a winning move!
We are proud of all of our 3rd graders for celebrating literacy, learning, and the joy of reading!
