You are invited to join El Dorado Amador Prescribed Burn Association, Garden Valley Fire Department, and Georgetown Elementary School to complete a prescribed burn in the Georgetown Nature Area on Saturday February 7th. This burn event will reduce the wildfire hazard to the school and surrounding area, and will restore low-intensity fire as a natural process in the forest.

Arrival time is from 9-9:15 AM. We will start with an introduction, tour the burn units, and complete some preparation work. Once preparation is complete, we will have a safety briefing and implement the prescribed burn.

Everyone is welcome to participate and you do not need previous prescribed burning experience to volunteer. Volunteers will be paired with experienced burners. If you would like to observe the burn or volunteer, please register through the sign up form. Additional details will be shared with registered participants as the burn day approaches.

January is designated as School Board Recognition Month across the U.S. to honor the vital, often unseen, work of local school board members who provide leadership, set policy, oversee budgets, and advocate for student success. They serve as a crucial connection between the community and the school system, listening to concerns and advocating for students. They attend meetings, trainings, school events, and analyze data, investing many hours beyond public view. Trustees do this while balancing these responsibilities with their personal lives. Black Oak Mine is fortunate to have incredible and dedicated school board Trustees. Black Oak Mine Unified School District Trustees include:
⭐️Andrea Dodson - President
⭐️Darcy Knight - Vice President
⭐️Jeff Burch - Clerk
⭐️Crystal Miller - Trustee
⭐️Bill Drescher - Trustee

The Black Oak Mine Unified School District (BOMUSD) Board of Trustees is proud to announce the appointment of Carrie Arnett as the district’s new Superintendent. Arnett has been serving as Interim Superintendent since August and brings deep experience, stability, and a lifelong connection to the Black Oak Mine community.

Arnett’s professional career in BOMUSD includes 23 years of service as both a teacher, site administrator, Director of Curriculum & Instruction and Director of American River Charter School. Her roots in the district run even deeper. Carrie grew up in this community and is herself a proud graduate of Golden Sierra High School. This unique perspective allows her to lead with both expertise and authentic understanding of the students, families, and staff she now serves.

“We are fortunate to have a leader who not only understands our district but is truly a part of it,” said the Board President, Crystal Miller. “Carrie’s leadership will provide consistency at a critical time for our district, and her dedication to our community is evident in everything she does.”

Under Arnett’s leadership as interim superintendent, the district has continued to prioritize student success, strengthen community partnerships, and maintain a focus on safety, stability, and academic growth. The Board expresses full confidence in her ability to guide the district forward.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue serving the community that shaped who I am,” said Arnett. “Black Oak Mine is home, and I am committed to ensuring that our schools remain places where every student feels supported, challenged, and valued.”

Arnett will officially begin her role as Superintendent effective immediately.

Black Oak Mine Families,

Today, one of our school buses was side-swiped by another vehicle at HWY 193 and Shoo Fly Road. Our Garden Valley Fire Department and CHP arrived on scene very quickly and assessed that all students and our driver were okay. Our driver kept a clear head and did exactly what she was trained to do in the case of an accident. The office staff at Georgetown School and our transportation coordinator were efficient in communicating with parents and assisting wherever possible. We are all very thankful that the outcome today was positive. However, this is a good time to reflect and take a moment to remind our community to be extra mindful of our school buses and the precious cargo they carry. Please help us keep all students safe by driving carefully around our school buses. Remember to slow down, stay alert in school zones, and always stop when a bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Children may be crossing the road, and even a moment of inattention can put them at risk. Thank you for doing your part to support safe transportation in our school community.

Carrie Arnett

Interim Superintendent

Good Morning Black Oak Mine Families,

As you may have seen, there will be a full stop road closure on HWY 193 between Georgetown and Greenwood from 11/3/25-11/9/25. The Transportation Department will do everything in its power to limit the delays or change in schedule; however, it is likely to cause delays for some routes traveling through Georgetown, Greenwood, and Cool.

Any families living between Graybar Mine Rd. on Hwy 193 and Ricci Rd. in Greenwood will need to relocate their bus stops for the week of construction. Transportation should have reached out to you, but if you will be affected and have not heard from anyone, please call 530-333-8325.

As we are attempting to not have delays, please be at the bus stop at the usual time (5 minutes before the scheduled time online.) If there is a 10 minute delay after the time your driver would normally arrive and you are concerned, please call 530-333-8325 and you will receive an update.

Thank you for your continued patience with the road work and delayed transportation schedules. We will transport as usual as soon as the road opens back up!

Stay safe!
