Breaking bread together around the firehouse table is a tradition that goes back generations in the fire service. Long before the tones drop and long after the calls are over, that table remains one of the most important places in the station.

It’s where stories are told, lessons are learned, jokes are shared, and sometimes where heavy conversations happen after tough calls. It’s a place where firefighters become family. New members find guidance. Veterans pass down wisdom. And crews build the trust that carries over onto the fireground and into the communities we serve.

A firehouse table is more than wood and chairs. It’s camaraderie. It’s refuge. It’s tradition. It’s one of the most welcoming and meaningful scenes inside any fire station.

No matter how busy the day gets, there’s something special about a crew sitting down together at the table.

This Memorial Day weekend, many of us will spend time doing the things we love most. Maybe that means putting the family on the boat and cruising down the Black River, firing up the grill with friends, heading to the beach, or simply enjoying a peaceful day at home.

As we do, let us never forget why we have the freedom and opportunity to enjoy those moments.

Memorial Day is not just another long weekend. It is a time to honor the brave men and women of our United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country. Heroes who left behind families, friends, and futures so the rest of us could continue living ours.

Their sacrifice is woven into every flag that flies, every family gathering, every laugh shared on the river, and every freedom we often take for granted.

From all of us at Georgetown County Fire & EMS, we ask everyone to take a moment this weekend to remember our fallen military heroes and the families who continue to carry that sacrifice every single day.

We remember them. 🇺🇸

Earlier today, Georgetown County Fire & EMS responded to Browns Ferry Road near the IP Canal for a tree down involving power lines that sparked a fire.

Crews from GCFE Engine 111, Engine 32, and Battalion Chief 92 worked alongside the South Carolina Forestry Commission and Santee Electric Cooperative to mitigate the hazards, secure the scene, and safely reopen the roadway to traffic.

Incidents like these are a reminder to never approach downed power lines and to always assume they are energized. We appreciate the teamwork between all agencies involved and the quick response from everyone on scene.

This week, we proudly recognize EMS Week and the dedicated EMTs, Paramedics, and prehospital healthcare providers who answer the call day in and day out.

At Georgetown County Fire & EMS, we are fortunate to have some of the very best providers in the field. These men and women come to work prepared, trained, and ready to serve their community at a moment’s notice. Whether it’s a life threatening emergency, a traumatic incident, or simply helping someone through one of the worst days of their life, they do it with professionalism, compassion, humility, and pride.

Prehospital medicine is not an easy profession. It takes commitment, sacrifice, training, and the ability to perform under pressure when seconds matter most. Our providers continue to rise to that challenge every single day, often without recognition and never asking for praise. They are here simply because helping others is what they do!

To all EMTs, Paramedics, and healthcare providers working on the front lines of prehospital emergency medicine; thank you for doing what most won’t! Your community sees your hard work, appreciates your dedication, and is better because of your service.

Happy EMS Week from Georgetown County Fire & EMS!

As Georgetown County continues to invest in improvements at the Georgetown County Airport and air traffic steadily increases, Georgetown County Fire & EMS recognized the need to expand our capabilities into Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF).

The South Carolina Fire Academy hosts a world-class ARFF training program in Columbia, South Carolina, attracting firefighters from across the country and around the world for specialized certification and hands-on instruction.

Recently, FF/EMT Tab Jacobs, LT/EMT Derriel Baxley, and LT/EMT Tyler Baker successfully completed this demanding course and earned their ARFF certification.

Georgetown County Fire & EMS remains committed to training, professional development, and advancing our operational capabilities to better serve our community. As our county continues to grow, so will our dedication to ensuring our personnel are prepared for any type of emergency. We look forward to continuing to send qualified personnel through this specialized training annually.

Congratulations gentlemen, and thank you for your commitment to the citizens and visitors of Georgetown County.

Covering nearly 780 square miles of mixed rural and urban communities takes a lot of teamwork, dedication, and trust in one another. With crews spread across such a large district, it can sometimes be difficult to get everyone together to train, build morale, and strengthen those bonds that are so important in the fire service.

Today, C Shift took advantage of the opportunity and came together for a morning workout focused on fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie. Staying physically fit and ready for duty is part of the job… but just as important… is building relationships beside the people you may one day depend on during someone’s worst emergency.

There’s no better way to build morale and cohesiveness than putting in the work side by side with your fellow firefighters.

Great job, C Shift!!! Keep up the hard work and continue Ridin’ for the Brand. 🚒💪

20 years of career service. Countless calls. Endless knowledge. And one phrase you can always count on hearing:

“I'm living the dream!” 🚒

Recently, Lieutenant Dale Hewitt celebrated his 20th year with Georgetown County Fire & EMS.

LT Hewitt continues to lead from the front every single day through his professionalism, leadership, experience, and steady presence on emergency scenes and around the firehouse. The amount of institutional Georgetown County knowledge he brings to this organization is truly invaluable, and our department is better because of it.

We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated individuals like LT Hewitt serving this community and helping shape the next generation of firefighters and EMTs.

Congratulations on 20 years, LT Hewitt!!! Thank you for everything you continue to do for Georgetown County Fire & EMS.

GCFE is kicking off the week with some well-earned firehouse pride… 🔥🚑

A big congrats goes out to Firefighter/EMT Brian Trappier........

That’s right... we said Firefighter/🚨EMT🚨 Brian Trappier...

After countless hours of hard work, studying, training, and determination, Brian has officially completed one of the biggest milestones yet by successfully passing his National Registry exam and earning his EMT-Basic certification!

From the fireground to patient care, Brian continues to prove his commitment to this profession and to the community we serve. Achievements like this do not happen overnight, and they certainly do not happen without sacrifice and dedication.

Georgetown County Fire & EMS is incredibly proud of Brian and everything he has accomplished.

Congratulations, Firefighter/EMT Trappier!!! You earned every bit of it!!! 👏🚒🔥
