Georgetown County Fire & EMS would like to advise residents that approximately 30 acres burned today in the area of Garden Avenue and Swann Lane.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission has established a fire break around the affected area, and the fire is now 100% contained.

Residents should expect to see and smell smoke in the area for some time as vegetation and debris continue to smolder within the containment lines. This is normal and does not indicate that the fire is actively spreading.

If you observe flames outside the established fire break or believe the fire has escaped the containment area, please do not hesitate to call 911 so responding agencies can investigate.

We appreciate the efforts of the South Carolina Forestry Commission and all personnel involved in bringing this incident under control.

When you call 911, help is already on the way. But one of the most common challenges first responders face is finding the correct address... especially in rural areas with long driveways, hidden homes, faded numbers, or poorly marked entrances.

Every second counts during a medical emergency, structure fire, or other critical incident. Time spent searching for an address is time that cannot be spent providing care, controlling a fire, or assisting someone in need.

Take a few minutes today to look at your address from the road and ask yourself:

✔ Can it be seen from both directions?

✔ Is it visible during the day and at night?

✔ Are the numbers large enough to read from a moving fire engine or ambulance?

✔ Is it blocked by landscaping, decorations, vehicles, or mailboxes?

✔ If you have a long driveway, is your address clearly marked at the roadway?

Simple improvements such as reflective numbers, proper lighting, contrasting colors, and clearly marked mailboxes or address posts can make a significant difference when emergency responders are trying to locate your home.

The next emergency may be yours, a family member's, a neighbor's, or a friend’s. A clearly visible address helps us get where we need to be... faster!

Today, on Father’s Day, we want to recognize the fathers of Georgetown County Fire & EMS.

Being a firefighter and being a dad are two roles built on sacrifice, commitment, and service. Our firefighters spend 24-hour shifts away from home, missing family dinners, ball games, birthdays, holidays, and countless everyday moments that many take for granted.

While they are caring for the citizens of Georgetown County, their families are making sacrifices too. Behind every firefighter is a family that supports the late nights, long shifts, and the responsibility that comes with this profession.

To all of the dads serving our department…thank you for the example you set both at home and at work! The same qualities that make you a great firefighter… strength, patience, integrity, and compassion… are the qualities that make you a great father.

Last night marked a major milestone as 11 recruits officially graduated from our joint recruit school with Midway Fire Rescue.

Over the past several months, these individuals have dedicated countless hours to learning the skills, discipline, and mindset required to serve their communities as firefighters. They have pushed through long days, challenging training evolutions, classroom instruction, physical demands, and the pressure that comes with preparing for a career in the fire service. Their commitment and determination have been evident every step of the way, and we could not be more proud of what they have accomplished.

This program represents far more than a graduation ceremony. It is the continued success of a regional partnership that brings multiple agencies together with a common goal: developing highly trained firefighters who are prepared to serve from day one. By sharing resources, instructors, experience, and knowledge, we are able to provide a level of training that benefits not only our recruits, but the citizens of every community we serve.

To our graduates: congratulations. You have earned the title of firefighter, but your journey is only beginning. Continue to learn, continue to grow, and never lose sight of why you chose this profession.

Thank you to the instructors, officers, partner agencies, families, and supporters who helped make this program possible. Your investment in these recruits will have a lasting impact for years to come.

Our recruits have truly come full circle.

The past several weeks, these men and women have been learning the fundamentals of the fire service… building skills one block at a time. Today, they had the opportunity to step back and see the bigger picture.

Stopping by the South Carolina Fire Academy gave them a chance to see how training gets conducted on a state level; allowing them to connect the dots and understand how the lessons they’ve been learning fit into the larger fire service across South Carolina. From local operations to statewide standards, today was about seeing how all the pieces come together.

As graduation approaches, it’s rewarding to watch these recruits begin to think beyond individual tasks and start understanding the systems, partnerships, and professionalism that make this profession work.

We are proud of how far they’ve come and excited to see where their careers take them next. 👨‍🚒🚒

Georgetown County Fire & EMS units are operating at a working structure fire in the area of Holmes Road and Browns Ferry Road.

Crews arrived on scene, deployed handlines, and quickly began fire suppression operations. The fire is currently under control, and firefighters are conducting searches for any hidden fire extension to ensure the incident is fully contained.

Please avoid the area and use caution if traveling nearby while emergency personnel remain on scene.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Today, crews from Stations 2, 5, 9, and 11 came together to train on in-line foam educator operations and master stream deployments.

Training like this keeps our driver operators sharp while also allowing us to exercise pumps, valves, and foam systems to ensure everything is operating exactly as it should. Regular equipment checks under real world conditions help us identify issues before they become problems on an emergency scene.

A good day of training and another step toward staying ready for the next call.

Georgetown County Fire & EMS units are currently responding to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Johnson Road and Brick Chimney Road.

Initial reports indicate a vehicle has overturned, and multiple patients are on scene. Emergency personnel are en route and working to assess the situation. Medical Helo has been requested.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while responders work safely.

Please use caution if traveling nearby and yield to emergency vehicles.

Georgetown County Fire & EMS is currently operating at the scene of a working structure fire in the area of Postfoot Circle.

Engine 32 arrived on scene and reported a working fire with flames and smoke showing from the structure. Additional units are on scene assisting with fire suppression operations.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to allow emergency personnel room to work safely.
