10 years ago today the weather was similar. We were dispatched to a brush fire, a call we all had done numerous times. This one would be different. Everything changed that day for us as a Department and for me as a Fire Chief. One of our own collapsed and never went home. He passed away 8 days later. Steve was a mentor and a friend to all of us. The calm in the storm. We miss you Steve! Thank you for everything!

Tonight, the Georgia Fire & Rescue Department hosted our Annual Banquet! It was a wonderful evening dedicated to reflecting on the past year and celebrating the incredible people who make this department great.

We want to send a huge thank you to every single one of our members and their families. The dedication it takes to serve our community is immense, and the support from our families at home is the foundation that makes it all possible. Thank you for everything you do!

We also had the honor of recognizing several members for their outstanding contributions.

3 members of the Georgia Fire and Rescue traveled to the University of Vermont Medical Center today to deliver the toys donated at the Fire Station and Town Offices for Operation Fire Cuffs. We would like to thank everyone who donated toys to make this toy drive such a success. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Police say one person was injured when a fire ripped through an apartment in Milton on Tuesday night.

Crews from the fire and explosion investigation unit were at the building on Clapper Road on Wednesday to figure out what sparked the blaze.

The apartment that caught fire is attached to a building that houses an equipment business.

Crews say debris found farther from the building made them want to look a little closer into what may have happened.

“I don’t believe it’s suspicious, but you know, obviously, figuring out why it started is an important aspect. If it was an intentional fire or not is why we are down there investigating,” Milton Police Chief Frank Scalise said.

Investigators say one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of “significant” injuries.

Police say the person remains hospitalized and they have not yet been able to interview them.

Route 7 was closed in the area as crews battled the blaze, but it has since reopened.
