Thank you to the schools, the Tehama County Library system, and Tractor Supply who participated in our "Name the Paver" contest. Our committee met and voted on all the entries (so many were darn cute and creative), and the winning name is..............

TARZILLA!!!!!!!, A STUDENT ENTRY FROM BEND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

We appreciate all of the student entries. They were so much fun to read. Stay tuned for the finished product, with a logo we are developing and the Tarzilla name, adhered to the paver.

We made it to the middle of the week of Public Works Week! Happy Wednesday!

Today our Paint & Sign crew participated in Storytime at the Red Bluff branch library. They asked the kids about themselves, helped with a craft activity then took them outside to meet our Striping truck and learn about its functions, watch it in action, and check out the cab. The kids asked great questions and our team had a wonderful time!
A big thank you to the library and to the parents at Storytime!

It's Public Works Week 2026!
What a great time to reach out to your favorite City or County Public Works employee and thank them for their service to our community. The work that we do is important to each of us!

This year we have partnered with the Tehama County Library locations and Tractor Supply to get the message out about Public Works.
Public Works has a new Asphalt Paver and it needs a name, so we are having a little contest to see who can come up with the most creative name.
Stop by one of the three library locations (Red Bluff- 545 Diamond Ave., Corning- 740 3rd St., Los Molinos- 7881 Hwy 99E) or Tractor Supply (249 S. Main St. Red Bluff) and pick up a form at our display, add the perfect name to the form and return it to the circulation desk at the library, or drop it in the tabletop box at Tractor Supply.

We will announce the winning name this Friday here on our page and will add the name on the paver!
Periodically throughout the year, look for a post here as to where our newly named paver is working for you in the County!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VP2 Road Rehabilitation Project in Tehama County
Will Have Weekend Work on May 29th - June 1st

REDDING – Caltrans will conduct weekend work on the VP2 Road Rehabilitation project, which will completely restore the roadway with paving and widening, and improve ride quality on State Route (SR) 99 in Tehama County. Work includes paving driveway and road connections, improving pedestrian facilities and drainage in southern Los Molinos and installing lighting. The project also includes installing and replacing guardrail, installing rail element wall at several fill locations, and census loops and piezos, and upgrading CCTV elements.

The road rehabilitation project will span from southern Los Molinos to the Tehama/Butte County line on SR 99.

Tentatively starting Friday afternoon (May 29th), there will be 24-hour traffic control north of the South Avenue roundabout on SR 99 until Monday morning (June 1st). Expected delays are anticipated to not exceed 30 minutes during full reconstruction of the roadway. Following the weekend traffic control, construction operations will revert back to normal weekday/daytime construction operations within the project limits.

The $49.1 million project includes 115 working days, with all days requiring traffic control. Night work will be used to alleviate traffic delays when feasible and safe. The entire project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.

DeSilva Gates Construction LLC, North Region Construction and Caltrans District 2 thank the traveling public and local communities for their patience during the construction of the project.

👉IT IS NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK 2026!
May 17–23, 2026

This year's theme “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community” acknowledges that the roots of service run deep in public works. It’s what has propelled public works innovations that have helped our communities evolve into places where people can lead lives of purpose and possibility. Some work—like building roads and bridges—is highly visible, while other public works contributions—like maintaining sewer systems—are sometimes hidden from view. Together, these efforts form the foundation of thriving communities, reminding us that every project, seen or unseen, powers the connection between service and the people it supports.

Reach out to your favorite City or County Public Works employee this week and let them know they are appreciated for the work they do! 😀

REDDING – Major bridge joint seal work is planned on Interstate 5 after Memorial Day weekend at Cottonwood Creek Bridge, approximately 15 miles south of Redding (near the Shasta/Tehama County Line). Did you know it is illegal to post signs in a County road right-of-way without a permit? And that election signs are never allowed in the right-of-way?

Per Tehama County Code Section 13.08 (Chapter 13.08 - POSTERS | Code of Ordinances | Tehama County, CA | Municode Library), signs/posters can only be placed in the right-of-way with a permit from County Public Works.
Signs for the election of political candidates or propositions are expressly prohibited, and cannot be issued these permits.

As we come into the election season, please be aware that these signs are not permitted within the County road right-of-way, which may extend 30 feet or more from the center line of road. These signs potentially pose a traffic hazard, obstruct vision of drivers, and are a MISDEMEANOR under County Code.
Signs in violation may be removed for the safety of the public, and violations are reportable to law enforcement.
