**Tornado Watch until 11:00pm**

A Tornado Watch has been issued for most of the area through 11PM MDT. In addition, tonight's storms will be capable of producing large to very large hail, strong winds, and localized heavy rainfall.

Fire Ban

Banner County is currently experiencing extreme drought conditions. These dry conditions, combined with high and unpredictable winds, significantly increase the risk of large, rapidly spreading, and difficult-to-control fires.

The County Board of Commissioners has reviewed the issue of fireworks during the current drought conditions. County officials are committed to protecting Banner County residents, property, and emergency responders from increased fire risk and have requested that the Fire Department take appropriate action.

Effective immediately, the Banner County Fire Chief has imposed a complete fire ban for Banner County and it will remain in effect until conditions improve. This ban includes, but is not limited to, all forms of open burning, rubbish or trash burning, bonfires, fireworks, open flames, and any other incendiary source that may cause or contribute to a fire.

This action is not intended to restrict anyone’s ability to celebrate the 4th of July, but to protect residents and property during these unprecedented conditions. After consultation with local officials, residents, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Governor Pillen, officials have determined that a complete fire ban is in the best interest of Banner County. All residents are expected to comply with this ban until it is lifted.

Another round of severe thunderstorms For Wednesday afternoon and Evening. Thunderstorms are forecast to develop after 200 PM and become severe through the late afternoon hours. Very large hail, strong gusty winds, and even a few tornadoes are possible. Flash Flooding is also becoming a greater concern into this evening.

With severe weather in the forecast for today, and possibly tomorrow, we wanted to put some information out regarding the Outdoor Warning Sirens.

Outdoor Warning Sirens take manual intervention to activate, meaning that somebody, usually a dispatcher will activate them once they receive appropriate notification that there is a imminent risk to anyone outdoors due to but not limited to large hail or a tornado.

Most people all have cell phones or are near someone that has a cell phone, it's not uncommon to receive notification on your phone several minutes prior to the sirens being activated. Why does that happen? It's because the NWS can push out notifications to your device as they are issuing the warning, and then they notify dispatch so they may sound the alarm.

Furthermore, you may not hear the sirens indoors, they are only intended for people outdoor to alert them to seek shelter, you may also not hear them if you have Journey playing full blast in your vehicle.

5:30PM 6/23 Radar Update - Scattered thunderstorms have developed across Carbon, Albany, and Laramie Counties and are moving east and southeast over through the late evening hours tonight. Large hail is the primary concern, but all severe hazards are possible tonight.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado until 1 AM MDT. Primary hazards will be large to very large hail, and damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Here is an updated graphic showing our thinking on thunderstorm timing. A first round of activity along the I-25 corridor is forecast this afternoon between 2 to 6 PM, with a second round beginning during the mid-afternoon in our western zones and moving eastward through the evening and nighttime hours. Storms will be capable of all hazards with a notable large hail risk!

3:30AM 6/23 - This afternoon we will see another risk for strong to severe thunderstorms. The primary concern once again is large to very large hail, but storms will be capable of producing strong winds and an isolated tornado as well.

* Until 630 PM MDT.

* At 555 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Gering, or near Scottsbluff, moving southeast at
25 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado and baseball size hail.

SOURCE...Weather spotters reported funnel cloud. At 553 PM, a
funnel cloud was reported two miles south of Gering.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area around 600 PM MDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include
Wrights Gap.
