Today, members of law enforcement, first responders, family members, and community supporters gathered in Gering to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

The Law Enforcement Memorial Service serves as a reminder of the courage, dedication, and selfless commitment shown every day by those who wear the badge. We pause to reflect on the lives lost, support the families left behind, and recognize the officers who continue to serve our communities with honor and integrity.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this memorial service meaningful and respectful. We will never forget those who gave everything in the line of duty.

This week, the Gering Police Department joins communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week—a time to honor the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty and to show appreciation for those who continue to serve.

We remember the fallen, support the families they left behind, and stand in gratitude for the officers who work each day to keep our community safe.

To our officers and law enforcement partners: thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service.

Please take a moment this week to reflect, show support, and thank an officer.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

We’re seeing a new scam circulating involving text messages that include a document claiming to be a “Final Enforcement Notice” from the State of Nebraska/Douglas County Court (example pictured). These messages may include threats of enforcement action, court dates, or payment demands.

⚠️ This is a scam.
Law enforcement and the courts will not send enforcement notices or demand payment through unsolicited text messages or QR codes.

Do not click links, scan codes, or send money.

Please join us in thanking the men and women of the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center for their commitment, integrity, and service.

NEWS MEDIA RELEASE

On Thursday April 30, 2026 at approximately 12:32 PM the Scotts Bluff County Communications Center received a call on a non-emergent phone line indicating there was a threat at Gering High School. Officers from the Gering Police Department and deputies from the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school. School officials placed the building in lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Law enforcement entered the building and were able to clear it without incident. Once officers cleared the building and determined no threat was present, school officials lifted the lockdown.
Our investigation revealed that this incident was a swatting call and there was no threat to any students, staff or visitors at the school. Swatting incidents are intended to elicit a large emergency response and disrupt the functions of the targeted location. Law enforcement will continue to investigate this incident.
Personnel from the Gering Fire Department and National Park Service also responded to the scene.
If anyone has information related to this incident, we ask that you contact the Gering Police Department at 308-436-5089 or [email protected].
