Our Post meets twice per month, performing hands-on training led by Germantown, Jackson, and Richfield Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedics to give youth interested in the fire service invaluable experience and fellowship!

Our Explorer Post is grateful to the Wisconsin DSPS, Richfield Fire Department, Germantown Wisconsin Fire Department, and Jackson Fire Department for our collaboration in securing this generous grant! This will allow for safety of our youth participating in valuable fire and EMS trainings with adequate gear, increased quality and rigor of our program via building training props, purchasing CPR manikins, and more!

Thank you to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services for the award of over $22,000 in grant funding for our joint Germantown Fire Explorers - Post 17 program with the Germantown Wisconsin Fire Department and the Jackson Fire Department!

Last Saturday, our Post put our recent vital sign acquisition and patient assessment knowledge together and performed some EMS scenarios. Thank you FF Archibald for being a good sport and taking a recliner to the head for a trauma assessment!

Our Post is excited to enjoy the warm-ish weather this Saturday as we start pulling hose and practice hose movement upstairs at the Jackson Fire Department!

TOMORROW 4-8pm!!! The high tomorrow in Germantown is 50 degrees and plenty warm enough to join us at Robert's Frozen Custard to enjoy some delicious food and custard and support our youth Fire Explorer program!

Our Explorer program is supported by the Germantown Wisconsin Fire Department, Richfield Fire Department, and Jackson Fire Department and committed to giving youth aged 14-20 a head start in their fire and EMS careers. Not only do youth have the opportunity to practice skills and attend trainings lead by our Firefighter/EMTs and FF/Paramedics, but also utilize invaluable life skills like teamwork, time management, communication, and resilience. Join us tomorrow and our youth will be happy to tell you all about it!

4 Days Away!!! Our Explorers would be happy to tell you all about our program over some amazing custard if you join us on Tuesday, 4pm-8pm, at Robert's Frozen Custard! Flavor of the day is projected to be Rocky Road!

Our Explorer Post gives high school aged students an opportunity to learn what it takes to serve in their communities Fire and EMS services. Starting with the basics and building up towards advanced skills, through hands-on training and real world experiences. The Explorers have opportunities to be certified firefighters and EMTs before they even graduate high school! Along the way they’re also developing leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that will last a lifetime!

The Explorer Post relies on fundraisers, community partners, grants, and donations to keep the mission going, and Robert’s Frozen Custard has a delicious way that you can help!

This past Saturday, Post 17 welcomed two new members and went back to the basics: turnout gear (e.g. coats, pants, boots, helmets, gloves, hood) try-on and SCBA familiarization! Explorers practiced getting all of their turnout gear on and masking up on air all within 2 minutes and did a GREAT job! Then, FF Dymond walked through a SCBA familiarization drill to make sure we really had it down! Thank you to the Richfield Fire Department for hosting and offering your expertise!

Please come join us for a fundraiser at Robert's Frozen Custard on Tuesday, March 24, and grab some great food and custard to help bolster funds for our post, including: new turnout gear and training equipment!

Our Post relies on donations and used, expired gear, and sometimes that is not size-inclusive for some of our youth! Adequately fitting and well-kept turnout gear is important for comfort and safety for performing trainings including: auto extrication, ladder throwing, hose movement, and even live training burns! Additionally, training funds help to purchase training equipment, build training props, go on educational field trips, etc.

This month, Explorer Post 17 had the opportunity to practice ice water rescue thanks to the Jackson Fire Department. This is a valuable training to practice what we would do in a situation a civilian fell through ice and required emergency rescue. Luckily, these types of emergencies don’t happen often, but that means it’s even more important to practice these “high risk, low frequency” scenarios!

While one rescuer enters the water and secures the victim, other personnel on shore prepare to pull, bringing the rescuer and victim to safety. This is a coordinated effort and requires lots of preparation and helping hands!

Great news for Post 17! The Richfield Fire Department has joined our Post!

RFD Firefighter/EMTs and FF/Paramedics will be joining as adult advisors to help instruct our Explorers, and we even hosted our first meeting at the RFD this past Saturday! The Explorers received a station tour from RFD's FF/EMT Kucharski, and both FF/EMT Kucharski and FF/P Mueller helped instruct a training on vital sign acquisition! Explorers were able to practice skills like obtaining blood pressures, pulse rates, blood sugars, and even got to observe carbon dioxide monitoring and learn the basics of acquiring EKGs - all skills that will be very helpful when they take EMT one day!

ONE DAY AWAY! Please come join us for a give back day at The Stillery on TOMORROW, Wednesday, January 14, to eat great food and help bolster funds for our post, including: new turnout gear (e.g. coats, pants, boots, etc.) and training equipment!
