Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life. The Jennie Wade House features Guides in period attire that are well-versed in the history of the home. For years, they’v

e enthralled visitors with passionate retellings of the tragedy that befell young Jennie and her family. Artifacts from that fatal day in 1863 are on display as well, including the artillery shell that punctured the roof of the house and a floorboard with Jennie’s blood still on it. You can help to keep the memory of Jennie alive: unique Jennie Wade souvenirs and collectibles are available in the Jennie Wade Gift Shop next door. Adults: $11.50; Children (ages 6-12) $8.50; 5 and under free. Prices subject to change without notice. NOTE: Self-Guided Tours will be conducted daily through April 30, 2022.

Phillip S. Greenwalt graduated from George Mason University with a M.A. in American History and also has a B.A. in history from Wheeling Jesuit University. He is a National Park Ranger and a full-time contributor to the blog Emerging Civil War and co-founder of the Emerging Revolutionary War blog.

His books include Desert Empire, Hurricane from the Heavens and The Winter That Won the War, The Winter Encampment at Valley Forge.

Jennie Wade Specialty House Tour

"Let It Be Me" The Jenny Wade Story ~An Immersive & Emotional Experience Step back into 1863 and experience the battle firsthand from this little brick house on Cemetery Hill. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds as the bloodiest battle rages on and relive the horrors that befell the Wade family during those three days in July. Please join us at the Jennie Wade house July 3rd and 4th at 11AM, 1PM, or 3PM.

Warning: This is a highly immersive historical experience that places guests in the middle of the Battle of Gettysburg. The tour contains loud cannon fire, gunshots, darkness, distressing wartime scenes, and emotionally intense depictions of civilian suffering and death. This experience may not be suitable for young children or sensitive guests. Please meet at the Jennie Wade House Gift Shop located at 548 Baltimore Street no later than 15 minutes before tour time.
