(ACOFA) is a private non-profit agency dedicated to providing assistance to and advocacy for people age 60 and above within Adams County, PA. Our mission is to assist people in maintaining independence and dignity within their own homes and communities.

Long-term Care Ombudsman volunteers logged 18,596 hours last year! Across the Commonwealth, the 140 full-time staff members and 203 volunteers are getting the residents’ rights work done!

Meet a member of our team! Patty Plempel returned to ACOFA in May 2025 in a new role as our In Home Services Director. She previously worked at ACOFA for 8 years as a Protective Services Investigator. Patty oversees our Options, Caregiver Support, and Protective Services programs. Patty is knowledgeable of our programs and has great leadership skills.We are thankful to have her as a member of our management team!

Elaine Heitzer, 63, a professional artist from Butler County submitted her painting titled “Mountain Falls” to the Older Artists of PA Showcase.

“The theme of passages and light appears in my work quite often. I find symbols of my life’s journey in the things I choose to paint. Life can be tragic and dark at times, but I keep my eyes on what is ahead and search for the beauty to be found. I want to share that through my paintings.”
