Sakats Manor Haunted House is a group of individuals consisting of family & friends who decided to take their love for Halloween to a whole new level. In 2008, a group of family members with the same passion for Halloween, decided to bring some scares to Drummer Boy Campground. Year one consisted of one decorated gazebo, and a decorated Graveyard, which brought crew 165 “1st Place” in the campground decorating contest. We had approximately 500 people visit our haunt. This created some motivation. In 2009, crew 165 decided to expand their ideas into 4 gazebos, a decorated graveyard, and a haunted walkway. Again, crew 165 obtained “1st place” in the decorating contest. With the expansion, we managed to pull in a crowd of easily over 1000 visitors throughout the three weekends, with at most times a line of patiently waiting anxious Halloween thrill seekers. In 2010, our ideas had exploded. We knew we had outgrown our work space, and at that point, Drummer Boy Campground agreed to donate an entire site to our crew, for the biggest haunt yet. A large amount of our building materials were also donated by the Campground. At this point, we officially became “Sakats Manor”, after an entire afternoon of brainstorming, thanks to Tara’s creative thinking. The name SAKATS – came to be after the creators, Sean, Alisha, Karen, Alex, Tara, and Shannon (the first letter of everyone’s name, combined to create SAKATS). This is the year when we tripled in size. We spent three days erecting a 20X36 foot building, complete with six scare rooms, a front porch, decorated graveyard, and numerous additions. After an additional day to add the roof, and about 6 weeks of decorating, Sakats Manor successfully brought in over 2500 visitors over the three Halloween weekends. We collaborated and decided to forward our donations to a cause near & dear to us, the Cystinosis Research Network, in honor of Laura McGinnis, one of our very own on Crew 165. In 2011, we constructed the same size building, with many additions. Thanks to friends and family of Crew 165, we continue to grow and support our cause.

2012 was our biggest year yet. There was a full twelve weeks spent on the construction, decorating, and operating of our project. We constructed a building that was three times the size as it had been in the past. We added a second graveyard, and featured a 10ft monster that greeted guests in line. Also, we had a custom music track made specially for Sakats Manor courtesy of the talents of Mr Jon Autopsy for the front of our haunt. The highlight of the haunt was a special guest appearance by Mr Jim Krut, AKA “The Helicopter Zombie” from the original Dawn of the Dead Movie. Crew 165 was able to forward four times the amount of donations as in the past to the Cystinosis Research Network. We are proud to announce that Sakats Manor will be constructing their SIXTH Haunt in 2013. Stay tuned for details. Though our ideas continue to grow, and our crew continues to gather members, our goal has remained the same: At Sakats Manor, Crew 165 “scares because we care”.
