In May, we placed our new EMS fly car, Getzville 7-1, into service.

GFC 7-1 is a 2026 Chevrolet Suburban LT with a wide complement of EMS equipment. It is the primary EMS response vehicle out of station two. Its size allows it to be taken into narrow or confined areas, such as the UB bike path.

7-1 can also be used with a trailer to deploy our UTV (4-3) or inflatable raft (4-2) for more specialized operations such as wilderness, water and extreme weather rescues that occur both in the Getzville fire district and beyond.

Chief Will would like to thank FM Communications, Streamline Designs, Rainbow Glass and Colden Enterprises for getting Getzville 7-1 in service!

PRESS RELEASE:

May 26, 2026

GETZVILLE, NY -- On May 25th, 2026 at 01824 hrs, the Getzville Fire Company was dispatched to Stahl Road. for a report of smoke in the driveway near a residential structure. At the time of dispatch, Getzville Fire crews were less than 0.5 miles away from the residence due to having responded to a separate call in the vicinity of the residence on Stahl Road. Getzville 9 responded and arrived on location in under sixty seconds from the initial time of dispatch.

Upon arrival, Getzville 9 encountered fire in the wall on the number four side of the structure spreading to the attached garage. Fire crews deployed hoselines into the structure and were able to successfully stop the fire from spreading throughout the rest of the structure. Fire officials credit the effective stop of the fire to the quick response time by fire crews.

Damages are reported as $30,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents. The cause of the fire was determined to be improper use of a propane torch.

Getzville Fire Company Chief Daric Will would like to thank the following organizations for their assistance during the fire: Snyder Fire Department, Eggertsville Hose Company, Ellicott Creek Fire Company, North Bailey Fire Company, Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office, Amherst Police Department, Amherst Department of Emergency Services and Safety, Amherst Fire Safety Division and Twin City Ambulance Corporation.

This evening, Past Chief Chris Kaplewicz was recognized by the Town of Amherst for his life-saving actions at a fire on Radcliffe Dr on March 13th, 2026.

Kaplewicz, currently serving as a Captain, was the first firefighter to arrive on scene. Upon arrival, he encountered heavy fire conditions in an attached garage with exposure to a neighboring residential structure. He entered the structure, immediately located and removed one occupant before re-entering the structure, locating a second occupant on the second floor and removing them with the assistance of a civilian.

As a past chief and long-serving member of our fire company, he is a perfect example of the selfless dedication that can be found within the volunteer fire service. This proclamation is well-deserved.

Congratulations, Chief!

This past weekend we held our annual Rapid Intervention Training weekend, “GRIT.” Firefighters from across WNY (and some beyond) attended this two-day course designed to train for rapid deployment to rescue lost, injured or trapped firefighters. This course contained numerous training scenarios inspired by real-life incidents.

A big thank you to all agencies involved, and to our instructors and support staff for helping pull this weekend off!

While mulch fires don’t seem like a major threat, they can quickly spread, which is exactly what happened with this fire earlier today. A quick stop by firefighters ensured minimal damage to the structure.

New York State’s Annual Spring burn ban is in effect through May 14th. Warming temperatures and the past fall's debris drying out can easily fuel wildfires. Open burning of debris is the single-largest cause of spring wildfires in New York State.
