PSA 07/13/2024 SCAM Alert. There is concern that a Satellite Dish or Directv Salesman is canvassing Sumner County residents to switch Satellite provider services. This method is used to gather information about belongings and eas of access to proerties. The individual was in Geuda Springs on 7-12-2024 around the lunchtime hours driving a dark 4-door colored car. The individual was in his 20’s and wearing a Gray colored shirt with a C or G icon. Cowley Country Sheriff has reported the same concerns in Northern Cowley Co. between Winfield to Oxford and Strother Field area. Please be cautious with any unknown visitor, and always ask for credentials. We will be testing the tornado siren today at 1:00pm! Do not be alarmed this is just a test!

We just finished a conference call with the NWS Wichita office. Highlights are listed;

1) ENHANCED Risk for most of Cowley County with MODERATE Risk for southern portion.
2) Hazards are tornadoes (some could be strong), tennis ball size hail, and 70mph winds.
3) Storms are expected fire to our west and northwest and could be entering the western portion of our County between 4-5pm.

Safety/Preparedness Considerations:
1) Please pre-identify a potential shelter ahead of time. If your community offers a shelter, contact the owner for specifics.
2) Have multiple ways to receive severe weather notifications.
3) Be aware of rapidly changing conditions.

Fire weather watches and red flag warnings, along with high wind warnings, are in effect for much of the state. There should be NO outdoor burning of any kind until this event is over, as the slightest ember could become tomorrow's inferno.

Heads up Cowley County and others in the SC KS area‼️ Tomorrow afternoon/evening may bring us a bout of severe weather. Please make sure you are prepared and ready to take action if needed. We'll continue to update as conditions evolve. The severe weather threat for today should stay to our north and west.
