The City of Ghent has received several inquiries as to its position on the proposed data centers in Carroll County. The proposed data centers to be placed on Sharon Road and Greens Bottom are outside of the jurisdiction of the City of Ghent. Neither of these proposed sites are within the city limits of Ghent. As such, Ghent has no power to take any action as to these data centers. Public comment has been made by data center opponents that the City of Ghent can pass ordinances or resolutions to "stop the data centers." This is completely false. The Ghent City Commission only has power within the city limits. As such, the City of Ghent can do nothing with regard to the currently proposed sites.
